Backyard Beds

Ok, a few people wanted to see the pictures of my FOAFOAF's outdoor beds fruiting, so here they are. These pictures were taken after a massive flush was harvested only a few days ago. I am sure that a few of you will take a look at these pics and ask, "what the fuck is up with the garden hose?" Well basically, its used to keep the areas with the most massive fruiting per square foot wet when the weather is very high, as well as to help other not as well off areas to catch up. After flushes its great to induce an additional flush, especially if it hasn't rained for a while. Basically, all you have to do is turn the hose on at the spicket, ever-so slightly... Then go to the nozzle on the hose and open it slightly, so that it drips about once every ten seconds or so. Obviously, if its going to be 100 degrees out with zero humidity, you're going to want it dripping a good bit more. These are GT's, this bed has GT's and TC's... Hmmm.... any more questions?
And here are three of them harvested:

Oh yeah, and this is one thing that i hate about outdoor beds.... especially when you are trying to take pictures at night... Wolf Spiders... or at least something similiar enough, that bites like little fucking SOB's.... I hate these things:
Sorry that the pic is bad, but its dark out right now, and i had to use the flash.... these little bastards hide during the day.

I grew a big ass bed of Tasmanians myself. Its really pretty easy, you just have to keep em moist. My shrooms were too dirty to eat though, at least for me, so fiend might have liked em, so I ended up throwing about 7 oz in the dumpster. MM

they are a few inches high.... i already started drying them last night, so i'm not exactly sure..... almost the entire stem grows underground, its wierd. But it makes up for the dirty stem (which, like Mr Fryd does, gets chucked), in the fact that the caps are really fat and wide, as well as surprisingly potent.... neat, eh?

>Hmmm.... any more questions? What substrate is this, what did you case the bed with, how deep is the bed, do you have pest problems(snails, birds, children...), How long did it take from when you made the bed for the fruits to appear?

hehe....the standard questions... how can i forget... sheesh, i need to get more sleep... anyways, the substrate is sterilized rye berries. The bed was made by first digging about 6 inches down, and sifting through the soilby hand toremove rocks, because there were alot of rocks in this bed, big rocks at that! I then softened the soil, by breaking it up with a rake. I thn patted the soil down LIGHTLY so that it was all even. I then took the rye berries (grown in filter patch bags, BTW), and sliced the substrate like a loaf of bread. I then took all of the slices and placed them down, no closer than 2 inches from one another. I then took some "right dress", a canadian mulch, and covered everything lightly, no more than about an inch thick. It should be noted that if you want to use this type of mulch, its a really good idea to either pasturize it or let it sit out for a few weeks to a month to leech out some of the baddies from it. The reason i say this is because when you first open the bag, it REAKS of a bacterial infection.... you know, the nasty smell a jar gives off it gets infected? As far as pest problems, i havn't had that many with this one in particular.... the backyard seems to harbor a shitload of little critters to mess with tho. The only problems i have noticed consistently with this bed are those huge ass spiders that i posted a pic of above. One night there was one of these spiders sitting on top of one of the GT's it would have made an awsome pic! For these beds to fruit, it took 7 days for some nice size pins to pop up. they quickly matured after that. Any additional questions? I'll be happy to anwer any/all! Later P.S. Any references to "I" or myself should be taken as "AFOAFOAF".... its just hard to type about someone in third person.

Looks like you got yourself a nice little harvest. Monkeys around here get these short shroomies from their patches also. They usualy just use straight grain(usualy rice) on dirt covered w/ leaves. They dig no holes for they like to keep their monkey fingernails clean, since they eat w/ their hands and all. You can probably notice how "heavier" and "tougher" they feel compared to home grown. The potency is also increased , IMHO. That's a neat idea with the garden hose. Too bad all of my patches are in the bush. Also, very important. If you can, DO nOT tear down the spider webs. Spiders have saved many of my patches from FLIES. It's good that there is a web near your patch. When i look for new sites , a spider web is sometimes the determining factor of where i plant. Plus, they are important members of the ecosystem. You should be proud ! : ) Peace. D D Island Edited by BrownPastures on 09/04/01 09:21 PM. Edited by BrownPastures on 09/04/01 09:24 PM.

Interesting.. well I just moved to Mississippi, and I'm sorta interested in constructing my own "backyard bed".. I live in Norhwestern Mississippi, near memphis, Tenn. Does anyone know what strain is the best for outdoor cultivation/my climate. Im sure its humid enough, but I dunno, which would be the best. Thanks

well, my FOAF came home tonight, and damn says I! Look at the size of this GT. Pretty damn short, but the cap is monsterous! its 24.3 grams wet.... just for the ONE CAP. Now if this one would be so kind as to splice its genes with the ugly one that i grew as long as my arm from a few months back, then DAMN, that would be a beast to reckon with. And of course, i apologize for the quality of the pic, my digi cam is at my gf's house, and my scanner is running poorly at best b/c i am using a 9V DC adapter when i *SHOULD* be using a twelve.... eek! And oh yes, its turning as blue as it looks... these GT's, when grown outdoors will damn near turn black. They bruise extraordinarily dark.... i love 'em!
