this is how we made our azure bed (pictorial) * 1

so....i finally have all of the pics together. Here it is:

The patch is located in the back of a garden under a maple tree. First a hole is dug in the ground. Dimensions are approx 50 x 70 cm and 25 cm deep.

the bed consists of small woodchips (soaked for 24 hours). When these are drained they are ready for use.

and bigger chunks of wood. These are also soaked (but longer, one week) and drained.

first a layer of small chips is filled into the bed. These are then mixed with spawn.

More small chips and spawn are added, another layer of big chunks is added and finally this is topped with another layer of small chips and spawn.

Finally a layer of soil (50/50 garden dirt/potting soil) is put over the bed. Then the bed is given a watering.

I'm glad to report that we have germination! (of the grass seed that is). Tiny green sprouts are now covering the entire bed. I wonder how long it takes before the entire bed is covered (i'm more into growing mushrooms than growing grass :wink:).

On the sides of the beds you can see the mycelium popping though, my god, that bohemica mycelium is rhizomorphic, very thich threads that are alomst elastic. It has started to consume the larger wood chunks as well.
