At this point I am concerned with the critters in my bed...could they be the infamous bed bugs?

I need to irradicate them. As soon as my pins pop up, they eat them!

This pic is from my intentional B+ bed made from straw and store bought compost. Saturday (6/28):

I'll post some more tomorrow when it the light is out. One of these days I'll post a glorious outdoor fruiting.

Here are some pics from this evening.

You can see in some of them how the critters are dining on the caps of the pins. I will be taking care of this soon with the use of diatomaceous earth. I have tried iron phosphate for the slugs, but it hasn't worked too well. I think I know why.

Thank you!

This bastard ate 1.5 of my largest shrooms in a matter of minutes. I have been checking on my bed every hour or so tonight to see what has been eating my goodies. Even though I have been treating the area with iron phosphate, the slugs are unstopped.

These nematodes are total harmless to your crops
and work for a long long time in the right conditions, i used
them for the first time 3 years ago, and havent had to retreat
any areas that were treated back then.
The other good thing about them is that animals eating the dieing
slugs will be unaffected by the nematodes, i dont know if you can buy these in the u.s but i really recommend them for slug/snail control.

Beer traps work well with slugs. You just fill them up with a strong beer and the slugs are lured into the trap and can't get out. Last summer one trap killed about 20 slugs in one night !

Great suggestion! However, I am cautious about specie introduction...other than cubensis of course :smirk:

I am aware of beer traps. My take on it is that sure, it kills the slugs that find it, but it also is a strong attractant for new slugs to find my yard.

Diatomaceous earth is what I plan on using as it has a wide range in pest control.

"A weird thing happens to slugs when they touch copper?an electrical current courses through them and they sizzle. Very cool. Thin strips of copper chimney/roof flashing or products specifically made for gardens will keep slugs out of the beds and possibly electro-metallically-cute some of the slimers too"

"The primitive plant "horsetail" (Equisitum arvense), which grows wild throughout most of North America, contains sbstances that repel slugs. The recipe for making this solution follows:
Place 1-2 ounces of the dried herb in a pot with a gallon of water. Bring the water to a boil, then simmer for 20 minutes. For extra punch add cayenne peppers to the pot. Cool the solution and strain; Then spray on vulnerable plants. "

"Eggshells work in the same way as diatomaceous earth. Spread crushed eggshells thickly around vulnerable plants."

"Wood ashes act as a barrier to slugs and snails also."

The DE worked. I spread some at the perimeter of my garden last night. This morning there is no sign of slug damage!

I am so happy!!

I may be installing a copper strip along the sides of my raised bed. I think it will look nice and will be functional. I may not though, seeing how well the DE seems to have worked.

After adding the DE (diatomaceous earth) I did not see any slugs in my garden. After a day I had mushrooms to harvest. I harvested ~80 grams of cleaned mushrooms.

Now that I have the pests under control I am ready for a larger grow..

Here are some pics form this evening.

B+

My set-up is progressing.

Here are aome outdoor FG pictures.

I was just out last night and spawned about 20 gallons of compost and 10 gallons of straw between three patches. A friend and I found a location near a park and made our "Rogue" beds. I hope to have pictures soon of this grow.

Here is a pic of my FG patch.

These following pics are perhaps the best pics I have ever taken. GSAfarmer and another friend have prepared a few outdoor beds. These pics are from two of the beds. The strain is an isolate from Louisiana, the isolation was done by GSAfarmer.

Here you can see a contamination...one of the few good contams. It seems that the compost used had some Pan. subb. mycelium in it. What a beautiful sight!!! Pan. subb's and cubensis growing side by side!

GSAfarmer deserves some props for these pics!!!
