Now thats the truth! My last girlfriends father did a lot of coke. He ditched out on her at about 2. She cant or wont give in and trust me for the reasons being that I smoke herb. She learned from a young age that a person who relies on outside sources to be happy, cant be trustwurthy being that they source there life threw chemical means. Now I dont disrespect her feeling on the subject one bit. I get where she is coming from as well.

But I grew up with a father that smoked herb socialy with his friends at the end of the night on a weekend. I saw them as happy good people and influnced me the same way as she with her father.

I completely agree with and have myself seen such circumstances as you have described regarding a child's thought process when they see their parents using substances.

I would like to ask anyone who finds it ok, even when properly protecting their children to bring them to festivals, what exactly is there for the children to benefit from going to such events?

The way I see it there is absolutely no complete benefits, only costs. Costs in exposing youngsters to compromised values, beliefs, individuals, and potentially bad situations. Not saying that they will be exposed to them, however that there is a potential that they will be exposed to them.

The error I see in the logic that there is something the children can benefit from said festivals, is not in that there isn't something for them to gain, but that they should be able to gain this in other circumstances. All of this which you hope they gain, be it understanding of peace, love, harmony, and whatever, is it that you cannot provide this for them without having to expose or potentially expose them to people using drugs.

In no way do I see it ok to allow a child to be exposed to drug use. Using drugs is not a good thing. I am not saying that people shouldn't be allowed to use them, however they can and often are damaging to one's body and mind and in no way is drug usage completely good for anyone. In some way it causes damage, however it can have benefits. A child on the other hand shouldn't have their development at all influenced by drugs though. When they are old enough, fully developed, and able to make concious decisions on the way they want to live their life, should they be allowed to make the choice whether or not such activities are an acceptable thing to them. However by exposing them at too early of an age I see it as irresponsible and detrimental to the development of the child. People are to some extent products of their environment and by exposing them to such activities makes it part of them in some way and they will be influenced.

Now I don't want to say anyones beliefs are right or wrong, because that is not the case. There is no right and wrong only ones own perspective and beliefs. Wouldn't you want you child to be their own person and formulate their own individuality?

My main point is that they may gain something from such experiences, however why can't you teach them what they would gain from these events in an environment completely free of the use of drugs?

Also I feel the use of peyote in some native american rituals is an entirely different situation and is more religious practice whereas the latter is more recreational and is treated by such by those involved.

Well lookie lookie lookie at all this postin threaular controversey. It just took me about 30 minutes to read through this bitch. Alright, well here I go :

I am COMPLETELY in favor of raising a "Child of Light". I was taught independently at a young age how to read and write, and then was forced into public school when I moved to Florida. I wasn't a child of light, but I wasn't devoured by the public education system, I was raised Amish. Without electricity, cable, barbie, etc. It was great! I will make sure my children have that same oppurtunity, just not Amish. haha. Anyways, I have discussed with many 'mamas' about raisin the children in the festival/gathering scene, and it has all been extremely postive.

By the time that i have children and are ready to raise children, they will be my main source of realization. I imagine i will be limiting my use of psychedelics very much so by that time. Everyday I am prying open my consciousness soberly, and have a GREAT time with it. Yeah i do liquid sometimes, but you can only be puddled so many times. there are only so many questions to be answered through the same therapeutic ritual (mushrooms, acid, beans, etc)

Children, along with animals, can easily pick up on the conscious states around them. Adamist can relate with this. We have a very intriguing kittie cat who knows whats up when we are expanding our mentalities and awareness. Now I know kittens arent exactly children, but children pick up on it too.

When children are exposed to these enviroments, it lets them see people freely floricking around fires, devouring themselves in great long conversation, creativity, simplicity, and comfort.

I would much rather teach my children how to make macrema, bead art, drums, other instruments, good vegan food, clothes, etc...then selling them to the public education system.

I believe public education is for lazy fucking parentals.

Thats right. Lazy.

Teach you own kids how to read, moniter what is being spilled into their minds. Dont let the governemnet moniter it.

I cannot wait to have children, but when i do that, they will be my life. My life will have a new sole purpose. Not to work, not to make money, not to impress my social status class or my neighbors...i will be living life for the family. my family, and the family surrounding.

One day...One light.

--------------------
A plethora of music aspirations control my temptations of future revelations beyond "now". The percussion, and the heart beat of my love and devotion. The rhythm goes beyond, prying into the third eye, releasing the creativity held so far inside. The melodicies, through the out of tune pianos and broken classical guitars...there lies a beauty. A beauty as prevelent as the fire inside. To release these energies is pure ecstacy, to deveop these gifts is sacred. The vocality, so pure as can be, shying away from herself, lies within me. For the underlying serenitity, this is what I live for. I plea for harmony, and nothing more. Music equals love. Creation of love leads to the procreativity of the World, and it's spirals and puddles prevailing.

I agree. I don't think kids (particularly little ones) should be exposed to that. And waiting until they're older to educate them about this sort of thing seems like a good idea to me too....

See, i think the children should be educated once there minds are developed enough to wonder.  to ask questions.  which is at birth.

knowledge is knowledge, what makes drug knowledge have an age limit?  why is it too early to ask about drugs?  when a child can arise a question, i belive the givers should answer it.

expose expose expose.  not even the word.  to expose it to unsheild something that has been hidden all along.

dont hide the truth from the honest.

What do you mean by drug knowledge?
Also limitation to exposure should be based off of physiological development and mental maturity. I don't think children are nearly mature enough to completely understand exactly what drugs are, what they do, and why or why not they should do them. That is why I don't think they should be given a choice. Only until they can understand them, should they be allowed to make a decision about them.

It's the good music, the good people, the good vibes, and the good spirit present at such events. Duh?

The same could be said of the education system.

Using drugs is not a good thing.

That's an opinion, and extremely general. Some people NEED drugs to survive, as in medically. So your statement is false.

Tell that to the millions of parents who have their kids put on Ritalin, Prozac, Paxil, etc.

That's how I was made, and I think the process a good one.

Do you let your child choose it's own name? Or the clothes it wears or the food it eats or the air it breathes?

How do YOU know that my drug use is recreational??

And another thing, I see alotta people in this thread relating to the "bad people" and "bad vibes" at festivals.

So what can yah do? There are bad people in every community. but then again in a community, everyone looks out for eachother. The good definitely out weighs the bad, IMO.

Now there are bad people in the grocery store, in the toy stores, in your neighborhood (sexual molesters, criminals), at your work, in the schools, on the television, through the radio. in our governement. in our world.

what the fuck do you really expect us to do? universally?

we are of a smaller diffrent breed, and gotta work around the nonsense.

yes, answer "questions" as you will - be honest and talk to them at an adult level. but children should not indulge in drugs - they do not have the mental or emotional capacity be able handle situations or experiences that might arise.

nearly every individual I have met in my life who was expose to drug use at a young age is a total fuck up. there is a reason for this.

when i say drug knowledge i am excluding experimentation.

I WILL NOT FEED MY CHILDREN DRUGS

-this is what seems to be plauging most of the posters minds in this thread

lets get one thing clear.

i knew about mushrooms when i was very young, 4 years old!!!!

In michigan mushrooms, edible grow wildly, and my father and i used to pick them in the fall times. He taught me which mushrooms were bad for the body, and which ones were good for the body.

educate, when they have a question.

my family smoked pot in front of me when i was a child, and it was cool. they knew it was cool. they couldnt get in trouble for it either, because i was never taught thet drugs were bad, or should be sheltered against..they just are. drugs are like food. people eat it. everyday...some people just have diffrent diets. i perfer the psychedelic diet as opposed to some carnivorous meat biscuits...ewww. haha

The government first taught ME about drugs, in elementary school by a program called DARE. Perhaps you've heard of it?
