I guess it depends on the kind of culture you're going to raise your kid in. Native Americans let kids participate in peyote rituals at a young age because there's a context to the drug use. There's a philosophy behind it. That's the difference.
It just depends. You never know what will fuck a kid up. It could go either way.

a lot depends on the parents more so the drugs, the type of drug is also a determining factor

if you raise a child in the modern society, its pretty certain that throughout the socialization, he/she will learn wrong things about drugz. noone can overemphasize the importance of giving their children the right kind of drug education (after he/she has grown to a considerable age). I also do not think doing drugz around children is right. you should raise them in a way that they will be objective to the issue as possibl and decide on various things by themselves.

regarding gatherings, I have been to many music festivals with people bringing their kids. the two ciritisizms were the loud music and people doing too much drugz. I think with cautious measures, kids have a lot to gain from such communities. but its a big responsibility and only those who know they can get under such a burden should bring their kids.

just another note, I believe bjork was brought up in a hippie commune and she claims she had a lot to gain from them with all their stories and experiences. I think it really would be nice if the people around are responsible for the children around.

Drug use has to be something that someone choses on their accord. If a child is brought up with "drugs are OK by Dad" then you get a child that is going to lean towards trying drugs and you have thusly taken away any choice the child had.

That's ridiculous. They still have a choice.

I mean, if there isn't all the propaganda around drugs then it'll make the child think that it's cool and will keep searching for new highs (in alot of cases).

Oh no! What would we DO without all the propaganda? We'd have to tell our kids the TRUTH!

Really? I didn't know that. Did Billy Graham tell you this? What kind of studies did he do to determine this? I'd like to see some observational data.  :smirk:

Actually, no they don't. There have been studies on stuff like this. If a child grows up (to adulthood) with parents that are theifs the child will grow up to be a theif like 90% of the time. No, that isn't ridiculous it's truth. Look how much a child loves their mom and all the time they spend with each other. If they see mommy taking shrooms and smoking weed it will all be OK in their own mind and soon enough the child will be trying it if the parent allows them. They ARE GOING to have a leaning to doing drugs because they see their parents doing it.

I use that in a way that what people like you would believe is propaganda aka drug use is wrong; drug use makes you a drug addict; drugs make you apathetic etc. most people can't be responsible with drugs and it's stupid to think that things like that can't happen

Actually I know people personaly that this has happened to you ass... people that started doing drugs at their early teens 13.. 14...

It's just too bad that TV, meat, Barbie, and video games don't alter your conciousness...

It seems that you advocate child drug use.

There's nothing better than altering your conciousness when your conciousness is still developing!

Ok.. you spend a day watching tv... play some video games.. then drop LSD the next day... tell me which affects your conciousness

Sleep is the only thing that I can think of that can change your conciousness outside of foreign substances.

This isn't about drug use that I'm against here. It's drug use at AN EARLY age.. that's incredibly stupid to take anything when your mind is still developing.

By your lines of reasoning, we shouldn't be drinking Coke, eating hamburgers, watching movies or playing videogames around our kids, because they will have no choice but to become caffeine addicted fat fucks who grow up to kill people because the movies & videogames told them to.

We? No not we.. CHILDREN

That would make sense if caffeine altered your conciousness instead of giving you energy.

Addiction isn't the problem either... start smoking cigs at 12 and your mind will be a OK when you're older (minus the addiction)

Give a 12 yr old LSD to do every now and then and you tell me how FUCKED up their memory and reasoning will be 10 years later.

I never said we should be GIVING kids drugs. The question was in regards to raising them around other people who may be using drugs.

If I have children and I am still smoking weed and eating shrooms I will do my best to hide it from them. I'm not going to put it in their face and say there's nothing wrong with it because in alot of ways it is wrong and TRUST me most people that have kids that use drugs are not going to want to expose the kids to it.

Me too... until I think they're ready.

After a certain age they will find out about it anyways, in school and whatnot. I'd rather they find out about it from ME instead of Big Brother.

(Now when I say "drug environment" I'm using one of those loaded terms that I despise but use anyway for the sake of understanding.)
I'm not talking about a crack house or some other shady shit, I'm referring to an environment where the use of drugs is a comman and responsible practice... i.e. most of our everyday lives.
Specifically I'm referring to festivals, concerts, gatherings; this sort of thing.
This post was inspired by the  Children Exposed to Drugs  story in the News forum.
Alot of people in that post seemed to think that we should "protect" our children from such dangers as being around people who are in states of drug-induced awareness.
What's your opinion?
Mine is in the post, and Seuss also makes some great points about it.

I don't have children yet, so I'm trying to be hypothetical about it, but I admit that I won't really know what I'll do until I have children of my own and have the choice to make before me.
Peace  :mushroom2:

isn't that criminal negligence?

i could probably think of a vast amount of charges that could arise from this.

The thing is, drugs are illegal. No matter how responsible your drug use is, it will be frowned upon.

I know that it will be by the mainstream, but I don't give a fuck about their opinion of me. Well, I care enough not to get arrested.

I do however, care about what open-minded individuals such as those found here have to say about it.

alcohol is called beer, tobac is cigarettes. and then peyote mushrooms marijuana etc etc = drugs?
I dont like that, I call it by the name. I use or take mushrooms. I smoke marijuana. But I dont do drugs. I am somewhat disgusted by that word, it is so respectless.

IMHO

no offence Adamist, just my view on that terminology

I just think it would be very hard to raise children in an environment where drugs are omni-present without having CPS up your ass.

I don't know if thats a wise investment. There fair market value is pretty low right now and the Fed has it marked to go lower. Invest in something stronger like toliet paper. Americans are hooked on toilet paper. Flood the market with your cheap product and put Charmin, Scoot and the like out of buisness. Then jack the price. You could take over the world with your profits from toilet paper.
