Do you think children can be raised responsibly in a "drug environment"?
    #3597441 -

(Now when I say "drug environment" I'm using one of those loaded terms that I despise but use anyway for the sake of understanding.)
I'm not talking about a crack house or some other shady shit, I'm referring to an environment where the use of drugs is a comman and responsible practice... i.e. most of our everyday lives.
Specifically I'm referring to festivals, concerts, gatherings; this sort of thing.
This post was inspired by the  Children Exposed to Drugs  story in the News forum.
Alot of people in that post seemed to think that we should "protect" our children from such dangers as being around people who are in states of drug-induced awareness.
What's your opinion?
Mine is in the post, and Seuss also makes some great points about it.

I don't have children yet, so I'm trying to be hypothetical about it, but I admit that I won't really know what I'll do until I have children of my own and have the choice to make before me.
Peace  :mushroom2:

If parents are responsible sure, but I think the fact remains that when on very serious drugs such as mushrooms or acid. One can simply not be responsible for a small child, its just not do able on higher doses.

Ares & I have talked before about having a child and raising it as a "child of Light" through the Rainbow Family. Any opinions on that idea?

I saw a recent news article about a guy and his daughter living in the Oregon woods and how he raised and taught her there, and the cops were all in shock and horror of the "conditions".

"OMG living in the woods like animals oh Jesus help us!"
:smirk:

I guess it depends on the kind of culture you're going to raise your kid in. Native Americans let kids participate in peyote rituals at a young age because there's a context to the drug use. There's a philosophy behind it. That's the difference.

It just depends. You never know what will fuck a kid up. It could go either way.

I see no advantages of confronting them with me or others taking all kind of substances. Rather disadvantages.

Would not go to all kind of festivals with my daughters. Lots a weirdos out there and bad energy I dont wanna confront them with. But responsible use @ home, no problem. "Ordinary" parties with lots of alcohol is no good place for my children either.

I will and want to learn them how to cope with the powerfull substances (ow how I hate drugs) in a responsible way. Not in an environment where a crowd only is being fucked op on dope by that actually giving it the (bad) name of "drugs".

I'm not sure on what kind of festivals you go to, but the places I'm talking about contain wonderful vibes, (not always but mostly...).
That's an advantage in itself- children would benefit from being raised around such good collective energy.

Yeah thats allright!

Teach teh kids respect, for themselves and for the other spirits. In a situation where that is present its fine to have the kids around.
In a situation where there is lack of respect, there is only spiritual hazards and I will never take my childrfen to a bunch of people who just wanna get fucked upp. Maybe later as a bad example and she sees how silly they are.

I dont go to festivals anymore, and I deont know what you consider "good vibes". On the most festivals or places where people use "drugs" it is far away from respectfull rituals.

Tell my bout your fantastic festivals where only shamans dance and do their rituals.
I wont sign for less.

When a lot of children are around they will contribute to the good vibes.
But with the powerplants only a few dirty bastards can damage open vulnerable children.

I can't help but have a philosophy behind my drug use. No matter how hard I try, I can't take psychedelics without having extremely serious religious experiences. It certainly doesn't matter what kind of blood you have in you.

I think the bottom line of this whole thing is that having kids anywhere where there's bad shit going on is bad and having kids anywhere good things are going on is good. The question is just weither "drug fueled" parties are more likely to be good or bad for kids in general.

You seem pretty sure that genetics play no role in religious experiences.

I wouldn't say it plays no role, but you're not automatically going to have certain experiences on psychedelics just because you come from a particular bloodline.

Of course not, I was saying that because of the fact that I have Cherokee Indian genes I may be more susceptible to certain experiences, such as encounters with spirit animals and such.

You never know. I have a feeling that the culture in which you're raised plays a much larger role in the outcome of your experiences though.

I have never let my kids see me use drugs but there in their mid teens now and know what goes on......."Dad's growing mushrooms!"

My kids have been to Dead shows with me and they know what goes on.

So far they both pull mid 90's and play sports and are great clean and well adjusted.
