Re: Thoughts on my banishment [Re: Redstorm]

Because instead of taking up a perceived personal grievances with the mods/admins who made the decision, he came back and made a lot of public hoopla and drama.

Now, I wasn't online when he was banned...but this is what I gather the reason was. After reading this thread and the other he posted in OTD, I can see why he was banned (see above).

I'm not blaming you in particular. I'm blaming a core of mods who can do nothing but be vague while explaining themselves.

He ignored a mod's request to be quiet and drop it. I haven't seen this rule in any of the forums. Just b/c a mod tells you to do something, it doesn't make it a rule.

maybe because he ignored a moderators request and was creating unnecessary
drama.

Redstorm, while we try to act as a single united group, we ARE all separate individuals. Most of us have never even come close to meeting eachother in person. Each and every mod brings a different viewpoint to the group. We all try to support eachother, because we all trust eachother's decisions. However when one mod makes a decision, the rest of us do not always automatically know their EXACT reasons for making that decision. It's not that we are trying to be vague, or that we want to be vague

Bah, this is unbelievable. :frown:

I had been hoping that I was wrong in my general feeling I've had that Swami's initial banning was not merely an isolated incident, but the beginning of a trend of a negative attitude, presence, and set of actions by those regulating the discussion in these forums... At one time, I had felt that it was why I had left, and after I had the time to relax and think about it over the course of a couple of days, I realized that I was probably projecting more on the situation than what was really there, and that my own personal reasons were the substansial ones (which, of course, they were, my life is seeing the positive effects of effectively utilizing my time and energy ). Ultimately, the banning of Swami was a passing mishap that wouldn't effect the intercourse in the Shroomery in any noticeable, negative way.....

However, it is becoming increasingly clear and painfully obvious that I probably should not have questioned my original, initial feelings and suspicions concerning the matter...

I would like to express my utter amazement and astonishment that Swami's PM to Trendal was taken in the way that it was by the moderators and administration here. It is upsetting to see wonderfully expressed, clear words shunned because others mistakenly project their own assumptions and feelings onto those words, to the point that they are incapable of thinking objectively. It seems remarkably noticeable to me that some here are acting out of personal motivations that lie outside of these forums themselves, and I also think that it is definitely not appropriate to do this.

I personally quickly grew tired of the entire ordeal stemming from Swami's inital banning, but if I was personally of the power to do so, I certainly would not prevent Swami from expressing his thoughts on this manner, as I definitely feel that it is entirely within his right to do exactly that. Who here can honestly claim that Swami was not in the right to make this post, including with that claim some sound logic and reasoning to back it up? Avoiding the root of the problem is pointless and counter-productive.

In my opinion, this whole situation is going to continue to grow in its soreness and its obvious persistence. This is not an incident that will simply go away, it has to be settled, even if that requires some here to come to realize how they were wrong to act in that manner in which they did, and that this situation might even necessitate apologies, and changes of behavior. Banning people in an attempt to prevent discussion of this topic when they were carrying it out in a clear and respectful manner, completely within the boundaries of the rules, only makes it worse, as the subsequent comments in this thread should clearly indicate. The more forceful action that is taken regarding this issue, the more people act out of personal vendetta, the more the actual problems are swept underneath the table, the more the soreness and seriousness of this will grow.

After all, I'm not ignorant enough to attempt to "cure" a painful bruise on my leg by forcefully taking a ballsteen hammer to it. The bruise requires actual healing. Perhaps this is a vital lesson that some around here must learn.

I find it sad to see this happening here.  :frown: I really hope that there will still be a Spirituality and Philosophy to return to when I am ready to do so, because if this trend continues, there certainly won't be, and there won't be a returning to it.  :frown:

Well I DO think he was creating drama. Notice that this thread did not start with Swami asking why he was banned. He knows why he was banned, and knew why he might be banned BEFORE it ever happened. Instead, in classic Swami style, he chose to pick a specific line by one person and use that to make it appear as if he was asking why he was banned.

Drama.

Well, it makes it hard not to blame you all as a whole, when one won't step forward and accept responsiblity for the banning. If you feel strong wnough about the situation, then stpe forward and be a man.

No bad blood meant, I just think this second ban is ridiculous. I'll accept the first one was at least somewhat warranted, but the second? Ehh....

i don't need to explain myself...what exactly do you think i need to explain?.

I think you need to explain why you won't tell us what this 'warning' was, despite bringing it up no less than 6 times now in this thread as a justification.

but don't worry about it, "i don't need to explain myself" sums this whole situation up perfectly.

The above is an extract from my fictional novel, "The random postings of Edame".

In the beginning was the word. And man could not handle the word, and the hearing of the word, and he asked God to take away his ears so that he might live in peace without having to hear words which might upset his equinamity or corrupt the unblemished purity of his conscience.

And God, hearing this desperate plea from His creation, wrinkled His mighty brow for a moment and then leaned down toward man, beckoning that he should come close so as to hear all that was about to be revealed to him.

"Fuck you," He whispered, and frowned upon the pathetic supplicant before retreating to His heavens.

Stop what you percieve to be, as you put it: "his teeth bared and a viper tongue"?
Or do you really mean to stop checking the accusers, and questioning the shady banishment altogether?

Due to lack of coherency, lucidity and rationality, there was no clear distinction of any actual WARNING being made. The word warning was never even mentioned.
Convenient that someone just happened to bring in a word that has a little flexibility that can be used to save face: "request".
Okay, playing along with that game:
All of which was said by the mod[s], might fall in the category of a request.

With that in mind, let's make it clear what the difference is between a request and a warning.

Once we establish that, then answer: From what was provided by the mods, or lack thereof, was Swami supposed to know that he was in fact, being subject to warnings?

You see, I use the word "warnings" here, because I am under the distinct impression that one can be banned only on the grounds of being warned, rather than the unformal grounds of beseechment such as a request. Is this correct, or wrong?

Here's a clue, but respect is not something to be granted simply by a green name.

If you act like a childish ass, you should expect to be treated like a childish ass, moderator or not.  To whine about it, to ban someone over it..  well, that's just a continuation of childish-ass behaviour and really to be expected by that point.

i have done nothing except to try and help explain why shirley banned him.. if you don't get it then i don't know what to tell you .

You should have stayed out of it, if you didn't want your name thrown in with all the other mods that are behaving childishly.  Sleep in the bed you make and all that, right?

You're all acting like it's unquestionable that the mods and admins may have erred..  that we should all just shut the fuck up and accept the decision, because well, we're not mods, we don't know shit!

Do I really have to explain how such a viewpoint has contributed to the downfall of..  christ.  other sites, other communities, other governments, other religions, other entire fucking EMPIRES, throughout human history?
It's the #1 mistake.  And I would have thought that a drug site such as this, where questioning the line fed to you by the authorities is the modius operandi, would be conscious to avoiding such a situation.

Ah fuckit, I'm wrong, right?  Just a lowly pleb, right?

From what was provided by the mods, or lack thereof, was Swami supposed to know that he was in fact, being subject to warnings?

I made it quite clear to him, in the PM I sent him before he was originally banned, that his ban was being discussed. I also made it clear why a ban was being discussed.

This is evident in the first post in this thread, where Swami posted his reply PM to me:

Quote:
Do what you must. I will not hold it against you, though others might.

And before I forget, if the original ban was indeed justified and clearly called for (which has never been established)..

What indeed would the problem be with another rehash of an argument that, obviously, would result in the same conclusions being drawn -- that being the ban was justified?

Of course that's not the case -- there WERE and ARE no solid grounds for the ban to stand upon. Discussion of it can NOT be continued, reasons will NOT be given. The best way to prove the Emperor IS wearing clothes is to claim that he is clothed and never allow the public to see him again -- because deep down, we all know he's sitting around bare-ass naked.

Specificate said public hoopla and drama. Show us some examples. I'm not going to take your word that subsequent posts that may or may not have had any content related to the decision, as I was told in Math classes, "I want to see your work", which, in this case, I would quote as "I want to see your line or reasoning, Trendal.

By the way, what decision are you referring to? The banning itself, or stuff that led up to the banning? If you are refering to the post that Swami made after his ban was lifted, this very one we are posting in now, I do not see how it can be taken as "public hoopla and drama". This forum is specifically for these types of threads, where input from every user is welcomed and necessary. I am not currently aware of any rule that forbids creating posts of this nature in this forum. If he had made the thread in S and P, it would have been moved here. :smirk:

I didn't see the thread in OTD, but considering what I know of the forum, I don't see how he could have been banned as a result of a post there, unless he was flaming or posting some highly controversial pictures.... Anyways, I would certainly appreciate some specific examples of rules being broken in his posting in that forum. It shouldn't be too hard to do this if they are actually there, right?

I'd like to know how this thread stepped over the line. The only thing I have seen so far is two moderators who, in my opinion, are not capable of conducting themselves appropriately for their position and the subsequent power and responsibilities from that position. One completely banned Swami because they personally did not want Swami to continue discussion on this topic. He was not off-topic for the forum the post was made in, and he clearly did not break any restrictions on posting. The moderator has, in my opinion, acted in an entirely childish manner in regards to the banning, which is in itself a very extreme action to take - usually, a thread is merely moved or deleted......

Avoiding all of this will not make it go away, neither will banning everyone with a voice on the matter. Why don't we all assume the responsibility that comes with our roles here and do something to rightfully solve this? We do not need to act like children. :smirk:
