This is further testament to why mods don't deserve banning powers of any sort.

Well, well.. gang mentality. That calls for police action. Cross the line and you will be banned. And here, after chronological answers to all your questions, we see evidence of a mentality of street justice where members gang up against moderator action.
Thank you for justifying my harshness.
Sometimes a forum NEEDS policing because some members behave like thugs.

Please don't refer to the mods as "police".

You will only inflame the situation with such incendiary comments.

Fuck the po-lice!

None of this would have ever happened if Swami had not been banned in the first instance, notice, the one that we never got a real explanation for other than "behind the scenes information that happened in S&P."

Funny how you make such a big deal of a puppet with a stupid mentality. Most anyone could tell that was Swami easily, if you think the best an intellectual like Swami can do in trying to "brainwash" people to his side is a puppet that makes blatant and often stupid remarks, you obviously underestimate people.

It would almost seem you're trying to draw attention away from the real issue here, that the Shroomery admins and mods banned a man for a couple weeks with no real reason, and that so many Shroomery members realize the stupidity of such a ban and call the mods and admins on it.

They never do give reasons for bannings, except to the user who gets banned.

The first bann on swami was well deserved. The second one was pathetic.

Swami had a general intolerance with views that did not match his own. But that never bothered me. Na he shouldn't have been banned...

Because...

His intolerance is his view, and we should tolerate it.

They never do? If you read the thread after Swami's first ban, they said S&P was full of reasons why Swami was banned, they said it was the way he debated people mainly. They tried to give a couple examples that not even the mods could find significance in, and then couldn't give any real examples.

Both bans were pathetic, especially the second.

I don't even give a shit about the first ban, since I never step foot in S&P and I wouldn't know whether it was right or not.

The second one bothers me a but more, though, b/c it seemed to be put in place b/c he wouldn't shut up about why he didn't feel he should have been banned.

Wiccan: Get off your fucking soapbox. I don't even know the guy, and have never spoken to him, so how is he leading me? Just b/c I think it's wrong that he was banned means I am being tugged by my strings? What a crock of shit.

Thoughts on His banishment [Re: Ravus]
    #3553796 -

> Funny how you make such a big deal of a puppet with a stupid mentality

My beef is not with Swami wishing to express his distaste for his banning, but making a puppet to circumvent a banning is an offense that in nearly all cases will double (if not make permanent) the user's ban duration. Though the initial ban against Swami was subjective and circumstancial, it was explained through opinion from both staff members and users alike. You may not agree with the initial ban, but a significant portion of the staff did. You may not agree with the duration, which I admit was too lenghty, but the fact of the matter is that Swami directly disrespected our policies by making a puppet account right after he was banned. What may have ended relatively peacefully has now been drawn out thanks to his devious/deceptive actions in evading his ban while also directly contributing to a large disruption on our boards through his puppet.

As such:
Quote:
geokills has banned the user Swami
From: geokills

User Swami has been banned.

Reason: You have exhibited complete disregard for formal policy by creating a puppet account (Gustavius) while your main account was locked. Further, you used this puppet to instigate and fuel dissention against your original ban, in very like fashion to the behavior which was the original cause for your initial ban. You may contact me, geokills (my username @ shroomery.org) to discuss this matter further if you so desire. If you continue to take measures to evade your ban, you will be permanently banned in the future. If you cross-post your dissent in multiple forums with respect to our decisions, you will be banned again. You are free to voice your opinions when confined to a single thread dedicated to the topic. You are not free to instigate disruption site-wide or in multiple forums. Do not make a public spectacle out of your own perceptions. I hope that upon your next return, you will be able to respect these common sense policies.

Ban duration: 10 days.

I will also note that this ban will be reviewed by the administrators, but not in Swami's favor you can bet.
If anything, it will be discussed whether or not his ban should be further extended.

Hey, when did I ever ban somebody? Once, after a very hostile attack on a member, a mere 24 hours, and that in the first week of being a mod.

When did I ever give an *official PM warning*?
Never. I have had to warn quite many times but I always did so unofficially, and i got the respect and even PM's by the warned who expressed they were glad I handled it like I did.

But sometimes a ban is due. It has to happen on the spot and an admin might be tied up in something else. As I see it this suddenly became a huuuuge issue with the Swami ban.
And I have dealt with that matter most clearly.
Nobody truely dealt with my arguments in a face-to-face manner.
The one who tried ended his post by stating how he liked it that members literally hounded moderators they disapprove of.

Quote:

Okay, the word police was perhaps ill chosen.
Is "Fuck the police with a dildo on a ten-foot pole" better?
Moderators at times gotta take very uncool action for the greater good.

I hope you read those two posts, checked up on the puppeteering  that Swami and came away with the impression that the "bambi-eyed newbie" role he played with deliberate misspellings and naivity contrary to his known realism obviously aimed at inciting more rage and anti-moderator feelings. He was covertly manipulating people by playing on people's feelings with that "bambi-eyed newbie act" and that is precisely what moderator after moderator said again and again throughout these threads.

If you need substantiation that Swami does this, it's right here in this thread. He slipped up *this time* by not playing hacky with his IP and that gave the game away and all the so-called "bias against Swami" was in thisd thread proved by Swami's puppeteering action and his emotion-evoking choice of wordings.
Swami is a clever high-IQ guy, he won't openly flame you to shreds but like anyone he is susceptible to slipups like with his puppet.

That Swami is innocent and harassed is hereby retroactively disproven because he clearly and without a doubt tried to manipulate the feelings of the ones who supported him and partially succeeded in doing so It is very clear that Swami indeed likes the "innocent pursecuted goodguy act" as shown by his puppet, and look for THIS throughout his posting in months and even years.

I spend this much effort in posting again and again because I feel answers (as I see them) were in order. I have provided these answers in pure logic, but it seems people do not want to hear or accept the fact that they've been had.

So the jury is out: If you objectively examine the viewpoints of my latter threads, their clear evidence in Swami's posting in this thread and others and the consistency with which many independent moderators voiced it, it's hereby established that Swami deviously plays on other people's emotions for Swami and at the expewnse of Shroomery harmony and that he does so by an "innocent misunderstood goodguy act". Name a month, just about any month, and check all his postings in that period. You'll likely see him pull it off several times and consistantly get away with it because he plays it such that you can't put your finger on it.

Owned.

Gee, puppetry is such an awful offense that the mods have ALLOWED IT TO CONTINUE in several cases KNOWING that such-and-such was merely a puppet account created to stir up drama in forum X.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So you're saying puppeteering should be dealt with firmly?
We're in agreement then. Swami must be dealt with hashly because he has puppeteered to cause drama.

I do so enjoy others putting words into my mouth for me. It saves me the trouble. Except next time, try to put something in there that I actually was about to say -- not make up some jive bullshit that I never even insinuated. Sorry, but you lose -- I made no call to arms over the issue of puppetry. I never even hinted as to how I feel it should be dealt with -- I merely pointed out that in the past, the shroomery mods and admins have tolerated and allowed known puppets to continue, puppets which only existed to stir up drama in other forums.

Quote:
I show you how people are led around by the nose but you don't deal with it.

No, no you did not. You are still assuming that those that were and are opposed to the banning of Swami are somehow being manipulated by him. It would seem that in your mind there is no room for someone thinking on their own to come to this conclusion -- again, an insult to my intelligence as well as the intelligence of a great number of posters on these boards, many of whom I would account as quite intelligent individuals.

Quote:
Nice diversion off-topic but you're still not dealing with it.

Off-topic? Nosir, that is ENTIRELY the topic of contention. It has never changed, although you may wish that it had changed to the puppetry, or to the creation of this thread, or some other ridiculous side-show. No, the issue is still that original ban, the ban for which the only justification to be found is the assurance from mods that they have recieved PMs from users who did not like their ideas being subjected to a bit of critical thinking, and at least one involving a user who believed that because Swami used a word in a post that he had previously used in a post, that Swami was mocking him.

Quote:
SOL? Seduced, bent Over and Lubed by a puppetmaster? I dunno what SOL is except Latin for our Sun, but if you mean that if you're wrong and the mods are right you are pretty OWN3D, then that about covers it, yes.
You wanted proof, and you got it. DEAL WITH IT.

It's -S-hit -O-ut of -L-uck by the by, there has been no proof given for the original banning, and perhaps rather than ME deal with the fact that there has been a heavy-handed and questionable decision made by those in power, perhaps YOU (the collective, not singular you -- I'm now addressing everyone!) should deal with the fact that a good number of us were offended by the decision to katow to those who find rational thinking distasteful.

And you know, it's funny. You're claiming I was trying to divert things off the topic, yet it was a mod who brought up the whole, Tsunami-relief thing.
The issues are totally unrelated. If you wish to call someone out for dragging things off-topic, I believe you are addressing the wrong poster. I have kept things securely on-topic, others have tried to discredit the entire argument I have been making by holding it up against some relief fund for a natural disaster. THAT.. is dragging things off-topic. That is a diversion.

I still think mods shouldn't be allowed to ban.

The policy has only been in effect for a short period of time, and if it leads to simple abuse and enraged users as such is the case now, I see no qualms with returning to the previously enforced policy.

Sure the initial idea has good intentions, such as when admins are too busy.

But how about instead of just giving everyone guns, give mods the ability to "tag" potential bans, and let the admins decide.

I've been on these forums long enough to know that this is probably the best way to resolve this sort of issue.
