So in saying that everything involves a "wager", what Swami really means (hehe, he's going to yell at me for saying what I think he means) is that everything we do in life has a "risk-reward ratio" attached to it, to some degree.

I wager five nuts on fucknuckle being in desperate need of attention.

Other than that I cannot see why being in desperate need of acceptance and understanding can be a bad thing. Or desperate need of attention for that matter, I think its good that we recognize things for what they are. Instead of calling it something squishi and friendly, to protect whatever ego lies yonder.

Anyway, right now I am wagering on your understanding, and if I don't get it, I'm gonna look stupid. Haha...I wont see it...still I actually on some deformed level actually CARE! Cya...  :crazy2:

uh nope im pretty sure this post is a perfectly valid and insightfull philosopical hypothesis that swami is presenting.

ANd personally i agree absolutely, i think every action can be analyzed based on percieved risk to percieved reward.

that makes it of course a wager. You invest your bet into the pot, you get your hand, and you win or you lose.

another thing you could think about this is that like in gambeling, your skill cant affect the draw of the cards (unless yoru cheating and the dealer) it can affect which wagers you take. if you take smart ones eventually youll probably come out ahead

Perceived is a key distinction. If someone is fearful of leaving the house, their perceived risk of going to the grocery store will outweigh even a very real need for food. So, they stay home.

As we can change our perceptions of events, we can change our perceived risk and perceived reward. This is why goal setting is important. To goal set, or better yet, creatively visualize what it will feel like to have achieved your goal even if you have not, increases our perception of and confidence in achieving the reward. At the same time, the perceived risk is reduced as the focus is more on the perceived reward. Performance is enhanced as fear and doubts based in risk focus are overshadowed by confidence and belief in reward focus.

You guys are all talking about risk, but risk and wager are the same thing. Just don't attack "money" to the word wager and you have the same defenition.

Risk vs. reward is putting the possibility of losing something vs. the possibility of gaining something. A wager is just that. There is no law that says a wager has to be monetary.

Everything is a wager, he's right.
