Did you have two different cultures, a green one and a black one?

I ask because I have a black cap print and the first few times I ran it I got fruits that looked very similar to yours color-wise.  I had to run several spore-to-agar cycles before I stumbled onto an isolation that consistently produced the black cap feature.  I thought the guy who had made the print had hosed me :lol:

Had a fairly successful first flush with this tub and then noticed this blob forming a day after dunking. Initially moved it to the garage for fear of wet bubble but then the liquid started turning blue. Still afraid to open it for fear of teh bubbleh, has anyone here came across this?

Hi there !
First grow starting from agar. Spores were labeled "Psilocybe ochraceocentrata : Natal Super Strain" from a trusted vendor.
Thanks for all the tips here. This mushrooms seems to be very forgiving for a beginner.
My first flush was more blue-ish, but the second flush (in the pictures) is more diverse in colors, with some of the mush very dark, and substrate is all black, and it wasn't the case for the first flush.
I did the floating lotus tek, but I wonder whether everything is normal or I did something wrong ?
From what I read there so far, I didn't expect those differences between the first and the second flush.

Another question : if I want to try cloning, it's better to do it at the 1st flush ?

note : first flush was during the heatwave, so the home temperature was up 6 degrees celcius compared to the 2nd flush period

It's just spores, nothing to worry about. When picking a clone I prefer to do it from the first flush, mostly because second flush most of the time throw less but bigger fruits. If you clone a huge third flush mushroom chances of getting big ones the first flush next round is small.

Seem to be in the clear. Just gonna let it grow for as long as possible at this point especially with other mushrooms still coming through.

You do realize that in the pictures you shared mushrooms dropped spores and that's why they're so dark in why the substrate is black?

No, I mean i know what Ochra and Nat is. My question is whether his genes are a hybrid. I mainly grows Ochra, and these on his photos have a lot of cube characteristics. I'd even say it's a cube, but I'm not really sure, because it might be some variety I'm not familiar with

Oh right, my bad. My bet is it's Ochra, stipe and heavy sporeload. If the caps wasn't covered in spores I would think they would be easier to recognize. Natal Super Strain is what Ochraceocentrata was called for a good while.

They look like ochra to me. What cubensis characteristics are you seeing? Do you have pictures of your ochra fruits?
Mine tend to look like this.

Mayby Im not right, but Ive grew cubes for some time and now im growing ochras and Im autistic, so I notice the little details. Like I said, maybe I don't know enough, but what I see—

1. They have warts — I haven't seen a single one on Ochras so far, only on cubes
2. They have visible and well preserved veils - againg not an ochra characteristic, but cubes
3.They're as straight as a ruler — Even the straightest ones are always a little bent in my growth
4. Caps are fleshy, large, and have long gills - ochras, even when they grow large, they tend to have more delicate, introverted caps and much shorter gills.
5. Ochras also don't produce such dense cotton wool at the base (sorry for using that term—I forgot what it's called:tongue:); sometimes, even at high humidity, they don't produce any at all, and when they do, it doesn't look as solid. Cubes, on the other hand, produce exactly that in 99% of cases.

I'd also like to add that this kind of spore release is also unusual for ochras.

Taken individually, these characteristics aren't much, but taken together, they set off alarm bells for me.

Of course, I could be wrong, so if your ochras look like this, I learned something new. I'll post a picture of what my ochra looks like later.

Actually, I harvested everything the day before yesterday, but I have a side project with Pf-tek, so it’s not perfect, but at least I can show you what I mean. Its 2nd flush. I know they’re a little twisted because of the lack of fanning, but that’s okay with me.
I also looked through photos here and even started wondering if maybe there’s something wrong with my genetics, because mine don’t look anything like the ones you show.

Here are some of my Ochra

In tubs




In automated tub


1: I never seen actual warts on any cube or ochra, if we are talking warts like amanita.

2: My Ochra always have visible and preserved vails.

3. My ochra stipes in tubs have some curves, but the ones in a automated setup are very straight.

4: I can agree with this, but the picture you are referring to are obviously over ripe and most of the species I've grown get those low hanging gills making the cap look more fleshy.

5: If my ochras have fuzzy feet or not I wouldn't know as my cultures always has crazy overlay, well for the most part, in a automated tub it's a lot less, but still I wouldn't know :lol:

I'm not 100% sure the fruits in the picture you're reffering to are ochras, but I know mine are. Oh and the sporeload is pretty heavy on my genetics.

Thanks for all the replies.

Blizzloo, for your 3rd point, I had some kind of twisted spaghettis for the first flush, especially for the tubs with less light.
But from the moment I exposed them to more direct light, they were growing straight.
