I tried last weekend NSW 2.5 gram (my normal dose is 2) and my roof was far far far away from the Mother Earth for 5 hours. As usually amazing and clear trip

Gorgeous šŸ˜!!! Which zap is your favorite? I'm 2 weeks in since casing CP. I'm about to spawn tlalnelhuayocan to sub later today.

Thanks! That's a tough question. I love the whole section but as far as Zapotecorum potency, Tapalpa, Texolo and one of the Jalisco varieties seem to be noticeably more potent. A little harder to grow well but worth the effort.
As for ease of growth.. Popocatpetl and Barrerae are the reigning champions. It might be I've been lucky with culture selection but I've worked with multiple cultures of both and they're quite consistent regardless of which culture.
Cinco Palo is nice and kind of a tweener. There's some newer finds I haven't tried yet but if I was only allowed three for the rest of my life it would likely be Tapalpa, Barrerae and Popocatpetl. At least today anyways.
BFTP pic.. Sawmill (Jalisco).

I haven't seen Tapalpa yet. Those Sawmills look stellar!!! I haven't seen any of those spores circulating.

I love the whole zap section as well!

Sure, till them show up you can have 3 grow of Bisporus 🤪If you are looking for one of the most beautiful in that section it’s Popokatepetl imho

An interesting fact: this mushroom species can survive and continue fruiting for years. I achieve this by taking the colonized block into the forest every spring, around May, and burying it in a specific spot where the soil consists of decomposing tree roots and sapropel. It's a semi-swampy area where water is almost always present. At the end of the summer, I dig the block back up and bring it home. One of my blocks is already two years old and is still producing mushrooms.
This year for the first time I got them fruiting outdoor

They're both pretty old finds. Sawmill was from Cactu and Alans find in 2010ish. First zapo I ever grew actually. Fairly difficult even though I grew them then pretty much as I do now. I'm pretty sure that pic is simply cased grains. Unfortunately, I lost that culture a long time ago. No spores floating around that I'm aware of.
Tapalpa was first released around 2013.  Back then it's nick name was Waterfall because it was found by one. It was lost with Sawmill. Fridge crash, dead spores and a whole lot of.. well, I'm going to call it slacking. That and hardly anyone growing them back then is still around. :oldman:
Anyways, I managed to get a hold of the  Tapalpa finder a few years ago and they sent spores from the same local. I released a bunch here but there was a bunch of confusion with Tapalpa, Tapla 1 and Tapla 2. Those are elpico's finds. Also really nice zapotecorum.

Honestly, I think there's less varietal difference between zapotecorum than it seems. Most morph all over the board. Much of that is likely conditions more than anything. Sensitivity is likely mostly health and culture related. They're really really really easy to overthink which can cause issues itself.
Bear in mind I fruit various exotic species in unmodified tubs. Often different species side by side in the same tub lol.
I've seen zapotecorum from the same spawn present in two different ways when placed in separate tubs of the same design. Right next to each other. Numerous times. :crankey:
Being that same design doesn't mean an exact duplicate that tells me it's mostly environmental.
Anyways, there was a lot more to that rant but I had to feed my dog and forgot.

Bottom line is keep it simple..
And listen to pheno. It's been fun watching his ascent. Dude made it to the top of the mountain faster than anyone I've ever seen. That's the part where you approach every project with an ah fuck it attitude. You do weird experimental shit to keep from cracking from the monotony and you've been considering just growing wood lovers for the last couple years.

^interesting post TCO

Got my VC boxes- all making blobs still, but one also shows a side pin!

I'll post some cross section style pics of the blobs and subs when the time comes to move on/reclaim space.

My Texolo clone tub is pinning in a few spots BUT I seen a fungus gnat in there this morning
:screwed:
Of all my grows, it was the Texolo that got fg's earlier this year too... Must be some gourmet myc.

Good stuff TCO

Always cool to read the back story of some of these genetics. Love your observations as well, it matches your signature for sure! Guess you can say it's in your DNA.

Hopefully in a few weeks I'll have some CP pins. Just spawned tlalnelhuayocan to sub yesterday. So I got that not too far behind.

I only fixed the double 'growing' in my post and the quote. Didn't change anything you said. Thus the edit note lol.
Yeah it's been crazy watching several finds come and go through the years due to few people growing exotics. Not just zapotecorum but other species too. Now that so many are growing exotics I expect we'll be seeing less and less slip through the cracks. At least until the next lull between shroom booms.

I'm definitely not saying a zapo is a zapo lol. But it's sometimes hard to pin down varietal differences from a mushroom that can present in so many ways with even the most subtle changes in environment.

And yeah maybe it is a DNA thing.
I'm always watching everything.

So far, this method has been working pretty well, even with ants, worms, and all the other little creatures from the forest in there.

Solid outdoor fruits going down, keep it up whatever you are doing, or maybe nature is just doing what she does.

Hello breeders, I’m having trouble cleaning my cultures using agar plates. I’ve tried both the ā€˜closed-door’ method and the ā€˜gap’ method, but there’s still some contamination. I have a HEPA chamber, I clean my plates myself and check them for over a month before using them, but there’s still some contamination. Do you have any ideas what else might help me succeed?

Pictures would help :strokebeard:

Hmm, do you think it's mold or bacteria? Trench and cabins are mostly just good for bacteria. I have no clue on how to get rid of mold except going back to spores.
