I don't like to send anything that doesn't come from a uniform plate, but I'm probably just fussy. I've done it before while feeling impatient, but I would always hedge my bet and transfer to a new plate as well as the jar(s).

based on the growth I figured this was a t3 at least, u right tho if this is t1 from spores I'd culture it 3x before going to grain

You can see in the center of his plates is an agar wedge, I believe this is his first transfer from spores (T-1)

yeah that's what I'd do. between 9 and 12 is a whole quarter plate, Id do an eighth of the plate into 4 jars. cut slice between nine and 10, then cut that into 4ths and drop it in. its a strong culture, if its as strong as it looks it'll be eating grain. if you like the culture take a grain when your spawning and culture it further to keep making jars.

if this is first transfer from spores I'd culture further before going to grain. 3x from spores and 2x from sterile grain is what I go by. t1 to grain is a waste of agar in my opinion, could have just went straight to grain and got pretty much the same results if probability Is a real thing lol

Anybody able to tell me what's going on here?

A+ (Leucistic) from SW

Just looks very different than anything I've ever put to agar.  I received from SW as an "ISO" and just put to my normal LC broth to get a better culture to inoculate some grains.  Doesn't look like any contam I've ever seen, but also doesn't look like any agar plate I've ever cultured either.

Kinda does look like you would expect mycelium that just crawled out of the pool all pruned up and unhappy. I would bet you lunch it’s just getting used to the new surroundings.

I had a MS syringe from SW that turned all sorts of blue after a T1 biopsy. The T2 and later plates turned out to be top 3 for growth. I was sure the blue was contam. I put it to an extra grain jar, and that mycellium shredded through a jar of rye no problem. Just spawned to bulk, and it smelled great.

Let the fungi teach you and be sure to listen.

I ordered some 60mm plates, poured them last weekend.

Does anyone else use 60mm plates? I didn't realize how small they actually were lol

I’m about 1/2 way through a 500-count box of 60mm plates…I love ‘em now, but was on the fence for the first few rounds of agar pours.

I especially love getting 2x as many plates out of a pour session using the same amount of agar as I would otherwise use for the 90mm plates.

They do take some getting used to though!

I've done everything you can do on 60mm plates. I have 90mm reusable ones now. I wish they made 75mm plastic autoclavable ones. Seems like an ideal size for me.

Hey Bird! Were the 60mm plates any cheaper than the 90’s? The place I buy petri dishes has the 60mm for the same price as the larger ones. Doesn’t seem fair.

I only use 60mm, I've tried em all. the space saving was a huge part but I actually think it might be better for getting isolates or close to them. multispore can be a cluster but its almost psychological cuz you gotta transfer before it gets to the edge so gotta take the leap lol

that's also on top of the benefit of using/wasting less agar, tape, scalpel blades, and taking up less space in the sab or flow hood deck

edit tax for picture of plates for my first grow since COVID, nocced last night. I  could fit at least 1000 of these plates on this one shelf, 100 stacks of 10, if I wanted make enough to send out

Hello!!
Forgot my log in from my account back in 2006-2008. Coming back to do some agar work and cultivation for fun. Never did much agar before this. Have some T1 plates that come from LC. Just wanted to get some info and education on how they look and where you think I should transfer my T2 from. I would like a little explanation as well, not just what part to pull from so I can learn. I have access to an FFU and any reasonable equipment needed. Here are some of the plates I’m trying to get cleaned up. Sorry if the pictures aren’t the best I tried.

This is the Psy. Cyan. I want to try to cultivate indoors, but have not found the tek I want to use for it yet.

This is my TWxAPE (it was hard to get pictures with these plates and I have poured charcoal plates for my future runs)

This is the TTBVI

And Hillbilly Pumpkin

I will start to get a profile built back up. Thank you!! ✌️

Mushcult supply Etsy. I recommend pda with nute yeast plates. But really try to do your own, it's easy and cheap.

Most of them look really good, from what I can see. Just look for the most organized, fastest growing section, and take a couple transfers from each plate. So let's say when you transferred your initial transfer it was laying on it's side and the mycelium was only facing left, but the new plates mycelium is in a perfect circle, and it all looked clean, I would transfer from the right side of the transfer, that didn't originally have myc on it. The reason being the mycelium on the right would have had to grow faster coming from the left around the transferred agar piece to complete that circle making it the faster growing mycelium.

So plate 1, 2-6 possibly 7 o'clock.

Picture 2, it's hard to say.

Plate 3, 8-9 possibly 8-10 depending what it looks like under the tape. Same plate as picture 2?

Plate 4 I'm bad with pan myc but 10 and 6-7 o'clock?

Plate 5 12-1 and 4-5

Just based on the organization and distance from center this is what I would go with, from my chair. Please wait and see what others say, with pro or con what I recommend.
