Unless it's yours from another source, mico got his from spores I sent last year, we think it's bobwastaken's but he mentioned heyowanna had some finds too.

Hello. Yes they are from you, Bro. It is slightly more difficult to grow than usual Zapos from Mexico. I had good results only with clone culture.

Cool! I've got these in fruiting now (from spores), and from elpico the other ones he fruited which I think are distinct(?) on agar but moving along eventually.

Finally my zapo trays are beginning to pin after 35 days in fruiting conditions.
That's a nice Christmas present for me. :mushroom2:
I hope that they will mature and drop some spores.

Nice thanks for reporting back I been wondering how you grow was doing is it the tray that was growing mycelium at the surface? I been really worried zapotecorum is hard to fruit I been considering investing in a tent for better fruiting conditions. Mine is super fast growing the fastest mycelium I ever personally seen.

Im glad its working out for you fruiting seems challenging to me.

Yeah, it's one of the trays with a lot of mycelium at the surface.
Don't know how to prevent the surface from getting colonized. I have the same problem with other species, too.
I would like to try peat + verm as a casing layer, but peat seems not to be available in Europe, don't know why.

The trays in the JCM tub were the first trays where i could see pins yesterday.

Today i found further pins in the tray which i keep swimming in a water tub.

The third experimental setup was cased one week later on November, 29th.
There have not been any signs of pinning yet.
This setup seems to be suboptimal. It's drying out every few hours, so i have to mist manually 2 to 3 times a day.

I have zero experience with tents. So if you are gonna try to fruit them in a tent your results would be quite interesting for me.

Yes, that one is distinct.  It's a 2020 collection from Bob, and I’ve dubbed it “SZA-01”.  Here is a different clone I ran a little while back:

Also, @rotceh_dnih, here is a peek at some Wauchope fruits.  Lookin’ a little wild!  I’m looking forward to running some more cultures very soon:

Neglected fridge conditions. Moved a bunch into a jcm to try that out as well.

Yeah, they seem to thrive in jcms.
Why have you put your cultures into a fridge?

The fridge is set up like a martha, with the bonus of controlling temps. That said it's still hard to dial it in. I've been able to fruit some things in it but its variable, inconsistent and generally just for tinkering and learning.

That's a cool idea, have never seen that kind of fruiting chamber before.

Some updated pics of my zaps:

Two fruits have matured completely already. Picked them yesterday and put the caps onto foil to get some prints, but they haven't dropped any spores. Is it possible that some fruits are infertile or am i just missing the moment?

Yeah let em go for a long time and you'll see a tiny bit more color to the gills. Like with subtropicalis you want them to get really mature.

Something is up with that in section zapotecorum.

Psilocybe subtropicalis Coyopolan exhibiting the same symptoms. I would say verticillum but they never rot.

Yep. Most.. not all, zapotecorum will get upturned wavy caps before they start to drop. They're also kind of infamous when it comes to a few caps dropping before the others.

These are just barely starting to go. Some spores are showing on the caps. Not so much on the stems here but it's usually the first place I look.

Thanks for this comparison picture and the additional information.
The caps that i have printed look very similar, upturned wavy.
I have just removed the caps from the foil about 10 minutes ago and noticed that they did drop some spores.
I had been confused and thought that is was only the reflection of the foil. The prints are not very dark but i think they are usable. Will print more of them as soon as they are ready. Wanna save that beautiful species for my spore collection.

I think spore viability runs about a year or so, if I remember correctly.

Does the duration of the spore viability depend on the species?
I have always assumed that prints last for many years if stored dark, dry, airtight and cool.
Have worked with some old cube prints which were about 4 or 5 years old and they still germinated without any problems.
