I asked rev this question last week. My concern was the flavor profile going into gummies. He pointed me towards white quinoa. If you’re not concerned about flavor I would think any grain that works well with cubes should work well.

I've never noticed a flavor issue when making gummies from wheat but I don't use the flour and only use the tea.

That’s what I’m planning on doing with my grain, making tea.  I typically use rye and it has a very distinct spicy flavor profile when I use it for distilling alcohol. Too much rye and the sweet notes from the corn or sugar (depending on what I’m going for) changes drastically. Glad to know wheat is a good option as well.

Thanks for chiming in D! I always welcome your advice/input!

The hoogshagenii var convexa you have is subtropicalis, HVC

Not to be confused with hoogshagenii var hoogshagenii

... Taxonomy definitely is a bitch. It's very sloppy and a huge mess

Psilocybe hoogshagenii is a extremely rare tryptamine bearing species first collected in the wild in Huautla de Jimenez. This species was originally collected as P Subtropicalis but splintered over the years into p. hoogshagenii var. convexa, and then p. hoogshagenii var. semperviva. Alan Rockefeller got samples of all of them and through sequencing found it’s the same mushroom.

:bow2:

Now it's becoming less rare. I myself even have nearly 10 different collections.. now I'm just dying to see something like stametsii in the hands of some cultivators. I've meet one person so far who does have it but local laws concerns him to share unfortunately.

First time growing these. How close am I to harvest, the odd few are dropping spores as pictured (probably cos I mist them?)

Nice pinset :awesomenod: How long have the fruits been growing?

In addition to spore production, one sign of maturity is the darkening of the stems, hues of pink/purple/amber.

In my opinion those still look young and have a ways to go.

Congrats man that's an awesome tub!

Thanks!

Growing for around 3 weeks maybe... I didn't label or note dates like I usually do.

But I been on these for ages, the myc was very slow growing.

I got a spore print from CaptainFuture.

Would you pull the ones that are dropping spores or just leave them to mature also...

You can cut caps that are dropping spores to print but I would suggest just trying one or two. They can be stubborn about it when they’re just starting to drop.
Repeat: These are semps and I’m being impatient…. And your own words, “leave them to mature.”
Nice grow.

Edit: added a colon.

Tao speaks true.  You can cut the cap and the stem will be fine left on the sub.

Different cultures seem to grow and mature at different rates.  If those are 3 weeks since pin then you might have a culture that plods along, and your timetable may be longer than others.  As always, keep 'em misted and watch 'em develop.

Thread bump and pics.

Just posting to show where I'm at.  The 3 original shoeboxes are looking rough.  The one in particular looks terrible, and I'm really shocked that the fruits have continued to grow. These were with probably too low pH casings.  The ones in the water tubs are coming along.  The water tub ones are off T1 plates.  Better initial pin density than the shoeboxes.  pH 9 peat/verm casing.

I know the shoeboxes are wet at the moment, got them opened up a bit more to dry .....Wondering if I should just throw them out or plant them outside.....  I've just kept them on the shelf because heard to never give up on semps and I don't immediately need the space.

No frank mold or trich growing, but something has got to be making them abort.

These are all from culture got from callmehippie....Thank you again.  Little bit bummed to hear your trip on them was disappointing...Hoping to get some fruits to try at some point.

Those look quite majestic. Of course I took 400mg of dried ochras this morning, so I might be a little biased

Great work

Successful first attempt! I ran these exactly the same as cubes. Spore syringe - agar - rye - straight coir, a little under field capacity with a straight coir psuedo casing. Everything was very clean - discarded three of five quarts that looked a little suspect. Spawned the remaining two quarts to unmodified shoeboxes.

I would ordinarily start harvesting because veils have broken but I think I read these continue to mature and potentially gain potency as they mature - is that right?

Those have a long way to go. Good job! Keep ‘em wet, they like it. I would mist those to keep the caps glistening, especially if you want to get spores.
