You're wondering about the cost of the use of ziplocks but ignoring the fact hes just tossing glass plates lol  you can reuse them a few times if you're using em for clean cultures, but even then you can use them for less sterile things like lunches and candy or whatever

Opening bags outside the sab feels sketchy to me personally.

 Nobody is throwing away glass plates, I hope :uhoh: That is a good point, I could  pasteurize casing and subs in zipbags as well as other things, thanks.

And I agree that opening the bag outside is a little sketchy, but it somehow feels less sketchy then bringing it inside the SAB, which is weird because I bring the stacks of sterilized plates inside it after wiping down the packaging. And look I'm not hating on the process, just saying it feels like my noob ass would fuck it up, hihi, and therefor just stick to what I know.

Oh, I am on solar, but I meant I use a sab instead of ffu/flow.

Ahh got it, well that's great, if only I had the money for solar, SAB is awesome tho and I'll probably never get a FFU or flow hood.

Huh?  How did you come to this conclusion?  I viciously attacked someone I don't know, who evidently invented putting plates in a plastic bag? Which I figured out to do in order to protect my plates?

And I made a noob mistake because I am a noob?  And tried to tell others not to do it the way I did?  In order to help?  And in so doing I have committed a grave offence?

This is either being highly politic, or is mob insanity.  It is saddening that things are this way here.  How did this forum get this large?

I keep my unused plates in a 15qt tub and the inoculated ones in shoeboxes, I probably look and touch them every other day and wipe with ISO before loading it into the SAB, no issue there either.

:yeahthatsright:

I use 90mm plates, and I can get four stacks of six in a shoebox.

By learning more and talking less.  By being helpful when we do speak up.  By giving each other more grace than we expect to receive. And by taking personal accountability in all things, especially in opportunities for growth.

My ROI is 3yrs. So generally, if you can come up with 3yrs of utility payments at once, you'll never have to pay again.

Ugh. One of my best friends in the world is in hospice care now. He's been sick for a while, but still able to do stuff he enjoyed until yesterday. I haven't been handling it well up to now, and I don't know what to do. Plus he's 3k miles away.

i confess, i tried putting unwrapped plates in a bag once.  it seemed efficient but quickly found out that its a contam factory.  i think fahts theory on it is sound.  i lost a ton of plates like that and ended up going back to my old clingwrap ways.

Bags dont cause contam, spores do. Air currents do.

Damn that is a real good deal. Not so much for me, where I live we have at least 4 months of only 4 to 12 hours of daylight and a lot of snow in those months, it is estimated that for solar panel with an expected life longevity of 30 years, it takes 15 years just to break even and then I would still have to buy electricity for at least 3 months during winter :begger:

Man that's awful, just try to remember you are not helping anyone by beating yourself up, my wife sent me this simple picture that has stuck with me ever since, and it still helps me when I feel hopeless.

 I bet, luckily I can't get a FFU here and shipping from another country would economically set me back 15 years, and I am poor now, but 15 years ago I was having pink spaghetti for dinner

Throwing my hat in the ring...

I have never wrapped a plate. I narrowed my preference to glass no-pours. Glass is slippery coming out of the PC. I tried once and quickly abandoned the calf tying in favor of individual ziplock sandwich baggies. One per plate. Once bagged and removed from the SAB, that now dirty bag never goes back into the SAB. I open the baggie just outside of the armhole and the sterile petri goes inside the SAB. No wiping with alcohol ever. After xfers, the plate returns to the same baggie, just outside the armhole.

I don't do no pours, but I keep all my plates in bags and have for years. Wrapping glass plates suuuuuuuuuucks, and for me using ziplocks has had no negative effect on contam rates. I open the bags outside of the box too.
