They definitely seem to appreciate the higher coir ratio.

These never really progressed past being baby pins so I cased the tub and gave it a good spray down.

Is my Psilocybe natalensis culture contaminated? Itโ€™s salmon pink on the bottom, but white on top. This plate was inoculated with the expanded liquid culture I made from the original LC syringe I received. the expanded liquid culture I made was also pink. Given this is a new species Iโ€™m not able to find much info, Iโ€™ve been assured itโ€™s clean, but others are saying itโ€™s not. so any help would be appreciated. Also, can I please get that agar recipe? Looks great.

Pink isn't a color I've seen from them.  Some yellow on a plate but only one of my cultures did that.

What was in your expanded LC?  Anything atypical?

What does the original LC look like on agar?

Actually, you just reminded me that this is a plate from the original LC syringe. The only odd thing about the expanded LC was that it formed a myc layer on top.

I would wait until other folks get a chance to chime in.  But it doesn't look normal from my limited experience.

I haven't seen anything that looks pink either with my nats. I would be especially concerned with the color change that early in the myc growth. If myc does change colors in some mushroom species, it is usually much older than that. Mold is much more likely to change colors in that time frame in my experience.

Little update, I have 2 quarts of millet to be spawned this week, 16 days to 100% they are quite quick on grain, im gonna make some more for stones. 2% LMA plates seem to slow to a crawl after awhile, 1% plates look almost..rhizomorphic?

Just harvested a few shoeboxes with aleged Natalensis. What are your thoughts? Nats or Ochra?
No veil and solid colored cap...but no thick stipe on top..

I also got this from an BRF cake from the same plate. Looks more like the stereotypical Natalens with the thick stipe on top. This was the only fruit looking like this doh.

I think unless you have a "verified" culture it's ochra unless you get it tested to verify otherwise or bought a DNA tested "verified" culture. The listings are pretty explicit about it from what I have seen they all come from the same inat collection as well I think. I know we can't discuss vendors so do what you will... I don't want to argue. I would encourage you to reach out to the vendor to get a confirmation on what exactly the culture you have is and the back story.

How did you run them? I noticed my nat culture consistently climbs the walls. Did you case them, do anything special or just run them uncased like cubes.

I think this thread is also interesting since it's not clear what they are growing and they have stones...

Great grow regardless! They are pretty and I don't want to poo poo ๐Ÿ’ฉ. I certainly can't tell you if it is or not. Beautiful grow congratulations ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ†!

Didn't to through a vendor, instead i reached out to a member her who sent it to me.

I did 1:3 with coir + pseudo casing layer. Nothing more than that realy. Finally have my shoeboxes dialed in after some struggeling grows:lol:

Thanks, have already a few mates who will be getting a gift pritty soon:mushroom2: AND looking forward to trying some myself!

Those caps aren't one solid color fam. They are a very light capped ochracentrata.

It's most obvious in the big one in the upper left corner.  Darker center.

Okey I see. Will be doing a giveaway with these soon, so kinda wanted to know for sure what they were. Thanks for helping identifying them FreeFrog:tongue2:

So now that I have Ochras, the quest continues to get som true Nats:confused2:

This is why people seriously need to invest in scopes. That culture is bad. Through and through. Zero rhizomorph tips. Pink is something that should never be expressed in any psilocybe culture (outside of section cordisporae (but still something to be isolated away from))

With a scope, you can check for clamps and irregular growth. Most fungal contaminations will not have clamps or they'll show this weird growth.

Don't buy a new scope. Check for used ones on Facebook marketplace. My scope is worth over 4 thousand dollars and I got for 250 bucks.
