Re: The OFFICIAL, Psilocybe natalensis (NOT ๐Ÿ›‘ ochraceocentrata) thread! [Re: QuantumZ00]

I don't know what Yoshi is using. But he's growing them in smaller trays and seems to find that preferable so my guess, based on that and where they are found (in grass not on shit) is no they are not like cubes but they are more like other grass species like tampenesis.

So smaller trays with grass seed sown into it? Just trying to get an understanding of how best to aim my shot when I get my true nat spores shortly. Like Hamilton, I'm Not going to lose my shot.

One of these is chlorocystis, but I wanted to show you this picture quantum zoo because you can see I switch to a shallower tray and I'm also applying the grass seed in a pattern where it's much more clumped in the middle and a lot thinner toward the edges.

I don't know if this will work better, but my thought is that it will give the mushrooms both the benefit of the grass and areas it can pin and mature well without drowning.

Of course, if the bacterial control works as well as the grass that will give it a nice pinning surface without the hassle.

We will see how it goes, I put everything in the tent earlier today.  So maybe in 2 weeks I will have knots to share

Edit:  This is the bacteria I keep mentioning.  The use isn't random, I've looked at enzymes this bacteria produces and it matches an enzyme produced by a bacteria that improves pinning in agarricus and oyster studies.

Here's a picture of some weird spider egg like structure in the 2 month old grain jar I just spawned. I still haven't seen any stones.

Think Semilanceata.... Reflect on it

Remember that they've been grown indoors with a reasonable level of difficulty but definitely not impossible as people used to think. Semilanceata vs Real Natalensis

Food for thought :cookiemonster:

Yoshi made a recent post where he mentioned he is using coir/verm and the bucket tek. He grew a few large fruits in a bag, and also did a shoebox with success.

Yeah, he said most fruits are averaging about 3-4" now.  Largest seemed about 6" judging by his hand.  He said his best flush came from a clone.  And that he had one tray that sat doing nothing until he cased it, and that that fruited well once he did.

He's also working toward domestication.  So, he's selecting for genetics that folks can grow easily without nitrogen, are co2 colerant, and don't require a casing to fruit well.

Definitely excited to see how well they did in the bag.  I'm sure now that my issue wasn't oxygen, but that I was drowning them between the grass, the casing, and the pan tent.

I'm still angling for the bacteria being highly beneficial for this species.
Obviously not necessary.  But I think it's going to be beneficial for a lot of other exotics too.  I'll update more once I have some results.

Treating my Nats same as pans which I model after the conditions I find shrooms in their natural environment, think I mustโ€™ve cased too early though as the myc has risen through it like a tide  might leave it a few days and case again, see what happens

It could be but it sure does look awfully gritty. Almost like limestone sand.

Like I said it could be a rock, but If they just laid them there for the picture. The rock looks like limestone to me very similar to this particular piece.

Gritty not like a typical stone. I would venture to guess the soil is extremely sand very similar to the area I live with large deposits of limestone. Only tossing this out there as a theory that maybe a sandy casing would be a suitable option.
