If you two ignore each other, you'd both have one more ignore.

Anyway, on topic.

The quitting smoking didn't go well.  But I have an appointment with the pharmacist to help me look at other strategies.  I think my anxiety level is really high right now because of the political environment here.  Which makes it hard to change coping mechanisms for sure.

Oh wait this isn't the smoking cessation thread my bad.

On topic for real.

I noticed one of the two stone jars I had looked a little weird on top.  So I cracked it open and shook it up and smelled it and it smelled fine, I think it may just be a little bit of bruising.  The mycelium also bruised a lot when I spawned it, and I am now wondering if the mycelium is as active or maybe even more active than the fruits considering they make stones too.

Anyway, I spawned the jar to a couple of short round trays.  Coir, black kow, and worm castings.

The other jar I'm leaving alone for a bit longer.  I believe there's stones forming so I'm hoping to clone one.

Clones to brf look like they're recovering well.  At least, the little mushrooms have fuzzed up and they're not covered in mold already so that's a good sign.

Also, I do feel kind of bad for venting but yeah whatever.  No hate person I invented too, just know that we are doing our best here to keep folks safe. At least most of us are.

God I relate to so many peoples struggles here it's hard not to always go off topic chasing down these nuggets. Tree frog i was just thinking the other day that this is a really terrible time right now to be alive if you have a generalized anxiety disorder. Not enough Buspars in the world haha. Gardening/growing shrooms helps though, it's better than any of my anti-anxiety meds. Hasn't cured my anxiety, but definitely helps prevent panic attacks like I used to frequently get.

(We are cursed to never truly get back on topic again, apologies. I'm still biting my nails in anticipation that you will eventually produce a wonder here)

Update non-update.

I spawned a jar that I thought I would run stones in since my first grow went green.  I have one more jar.  It finished running the substrate and looked good.  I cased one with grass and beneficial bacteria and one with just beneficial bacteria.  My first grow was just grass, and they pinned well but went green before maturing.  I also changed out my tray for one that's not as tall and ran the substrate thinner like I do other grass species like tamps and pans.

I figure most folks are running them without my strange stuff .  And that some of y'all are possibly working off the same culture (though conditions and substrate are also likely different).  So, y'all are my controls.  Or close enough for citizen science.

Welcome back!

And what you may have missed in your absence is what was going around that everybody thought was natalensis, turned out to be an undescribed species that's now named ochracentrata.

The one that grows similar to cubes, is ochra.  And yeah folks are still growing it and enjoying it in the old thread.

This is a new one for the actual natalensis species.

There's multiple photos in this thread, it's only 7 pages long.

I would start on the first page and go through, there's a podcast linked I naturalist stuff, etc.

As well as my grow that ultimately contaminated.  But there's some pin shots anyway.

Those people that are debating that, I imagine they're not looking at the rest of the picture

There are distinct macroscopic and microscopic differences between the two species.

I'm trying to see if I can dig up the original research paper, but my suspicion is that Gartz would have scoped it, and that folks that have been passing around ochra didn't.

Because the former have 1,2,3, and 4 spored basidia.  Which creates a huge variance in spore size.  Ochra I believe is always four.  So the largest spores from nats are quite a bit bigger than the largest ochra.

Ochra, took about five days to mature.  Typical cube times. I didn't really pay that much attention.

Natelensis, two weeks after pins started.  Were still maturing when the mean green found them.

i have screenshots of the original nat paper from gartz in the integration journal but they are not public i can ask alan if i can post them

Not just getting spores, also making sure that the quick ones didn't it make a mess in my tent

I just scoped out Yoshi's patreon by the way, yeah he's getting a lot bigger fruits than I did. I probably was drowning mine with how high my humidity was and the grass.  Still quite a bit shorter than ochre and cubed but more meaty.  At least from the pictures I saw though, my pin sets were way better

So we'll get them figured out.  And hopefully when we do they won't take 3 weeks to mature.

Anyway, sorry for the aside. I'll take any more of that over to the nat thread.

Just moving this conversation over here, catnip I have seen those pictures. But it would still be great if you get permission to post them. I'm more interested in the whole paper, because microscopically I think the two species are dissimilar.

And if anyone wants to take a look at what's going on on Yoshi Amanos patreon, it's free to subscribe and take a look around.  I don't want to steal pictures from him so I'm not going to.

But it looks like he's made quite a lot of progress in fruit morphology.

i dont really think it would be a big deal to screenshot a snippet of the microscopy section

i don't really think there is more than those screenshots. i think its the whole paper it just a small species description in the integration journal like 3 or 4 pages

the only thing in the og thats sensitive is it says the exact location and stuff could easily just redact that tho lol

For my part in this I tossed my tub yesterday. I'll be spawning some more grain this week. I haven't seen anything that resembles a stone yet. My first tub I recased two times and it just kept growing over the casing layer and up the sides of the shoe box. I plan on running the next ones with a much higher ratio of coir.

Someone gave me a free P. nats culture. Can I use CVG as substrate to grow P. nats? I've read somewhre we can grow them exactly like cubes but it might need more FAE. Is that true?

True nats grow exactly like cubes? I doubt it or tree frog would not have been having issues.

Ochraceocentrata formerly nats grow exactly like cubes...

..did we find out true nats can now grow similarly to cubes? Because that would make me change my upcoming strategy real quick...
