Some freakish looking MIB

Maybe too little FAE? Theyre definetely a lot slower than the TTBVI i have going. Waiting for them to drop spores but feel like i should just harvest them already seeing as theyre bruising up like that

Unexpected growth on uncased popcorn/coir ttbvi ! Check it out. [Re: tittlez] * 5
    #29092962 -

So I got some TTBVI going via gordotek that is progressing nicely.  Harvested 150g wet so far and they are growing like weeds.

Had some leftover stuff going using a couple different teks in case my primary grow failed.
One of the other ways is a black cow/straw/vermiculite in bags that I knocked up with lc.  Put it in trays beginning of week and was waiting till this weekend to case it.  Cased it with peat moss/vermiculite/pickling lime.  Nothing unusual or exciting going on there.  Looks like expected....

Now for the news.....

I had some 2 jars of sterilized popcorn that I threw some extra agar pieces off my mother ttbvi plate just for the heck of it.  They were initally kind of slow I thought, but after a shake, I went back to look at jar and it was fully colonized.  Had some extra coir(make using boiling water and coco bliss) that had been sitting in cooler for a week that I was using for nats and cubes and decided to sent the ttbvi popcorn into coir with 1 pump of 1-1-1 fertilizer.  I just pumped the fertilzer onto my gloves and mixed everything up real good.  Put it into a 12 qt shoebox and put the lid on it.  Looked like it was colonizing fine, so this morning I was going to case it with the same stuff I used for the other tek and found this!

Zoom in and look at the substrate.  Wispy mycelium and knots.  I bet that is going to form a decent pinset!

I really didn't expect these to do anything as this was very much a neglect tek kind of thing.  No poop, no straw, no casing. Just treated it like cubes and added 1 pump of the fertilzer I got on clearance at wal mart.  I will post additional pictures and let yall know what comes of this.

Would love to hear some feedback on this if anyone has had similar happen.

I'm still a noob, so this is not meant to teach people bad habits or anything else.  Just posting this up because I was shocked to see pins...

I had a similar experience with TTBVI and liquid nutes. Pinned heavy before casing. I used Fox Farm grow big.

ooooh, I had some sketch millet jars that didn't colonize properly (from water leaking from no-prep since they were sideways I am almost 100% sure). Added some coir on top of them and sprayed it wet to top fruit.

One of them is bisporus, should I drip a tiny bit of liquid fertilizer on the coir? If so how much?

It's this one, and yes, consider this an attempt to see how low we can go.

I used a tablespoon of 6-4-4 per liter of water. Then used that water to hydrate my coir. I feel like your best bet would be to dilute a batch of water like that and then add that to your coir.

But you never know until you try something so you could give adding it straight a go.

Nice pin set! Lets see how big they are getting.
I will browse the liquid fertilizer shelve at the garden center next time I'm in town.

Also....casings are helpful but overrated.

^^ Smart Henry, thanks man. Did that, and I used 2 tbps of the diluted mix on top. Wish me luck.

I wanted to do cakes with half coir/ half manure, but maybe I could do a coir only batch first with just the liquid fertilizer added to the soak water. Has anyone tried that before?

On a similar note, are there any concerns about feeding shrooms commercial fertilizers? Are there flavor differences? Anything worth noting?

MojaveMyc has been experimenting with liquid nutes for some time, has a write up in the works that shouldn’t be too far off.

Sooo, after 9x9 mentioned the Bbar stones or sclerotia I realised all my wild pan clones produce them, why I never thought much of it I guess as they’re just the norm for me but now I’m wondering wtf?!

Any thoughts on what these are?
They’re rock solid, I’ve broken up larger ones but smaller ones won’t break.

Edit: I’m not saying these are actually sclerotia, just wondering if anyone has theories on why they form.

Sleepydave has brought the liquid fertilizers up a while ago. He has a post in his journal which is a bit unorganized but have a look til Mojave has theirs ready.

I think mixing them in with the coir prep water is the usual approach. I have used liquid compost but got mold and some say certain brands are less likely to contam. Don't think that any of them would influence the taste or something.

Got my first pins this morning!

Is it normal that they start off a tad blue or do I need to make some adjustments?  Still kinda dialing in the jcm. Either way, I’m excited to see anything and yeah, they be fast

Yeah. They are amazing, I love their style, and they seem very potent as well, not just bluish but they turn dark blackish just after cutting.
I can't wait to try them out :tripping:

It’s specifically the knots and pins.. even the knots that are under some thin surface myc (no myc is blue) are starting bluish which makes think it might be normalish but idk

They’re mib

That does still look normal to me at this stage, I think that is just the veil stretching and bruising a little. When pins start to bruise on their stems and or caps early on is when I start to think something might be up or when they have an overall blue hue, like in their first inch of growth.

These are bad omens in my book. Notice the fork scratch marks haha, cause it wouldn't want to pin lol.

Sometimes only a few are affected and sometimes a whole pin set. Doesn't mean it's an instant write off but it does drain performance potential.

I gotta say, adding nutrition when hydrating coir is exciting, and  will definitely push me to try growing these a lot sooner then I would have.

What you guys think though? I like to make my own fertilizer tea for my cactus/ cannabis by using highly nutritious plants such as seaweed or lambsquarters, rather then buying store bought mixes.
Worth an experiment?
