I'm finding myself curious too hob. this is a new one on me.  I have to admit, that spawn do look pretty clean but my spider senses do be tingling.

Why is one in here immediately doubted, as soon as one goes off the standard? I dont get it.

I PC the rye in 1qt jars, just like everyone else, but i transfer the rye to the ziploc bags because i prefer them for the b&s. Simple as is. Never ever had a contam problem in all my grows. 

I got nothing to prove but as you asked, heres my current Ghost grow coming from a sporeswab.

100% coco coir, 1:3 plus casing.

hey i was just curious.  for sure i hate break n shakin jars. i can see the benefits it just seems like a big vector but if its workong its working. so are they unsnappes and then you mp tape? or...

dont get defensive im just curious.  i can def see the benefit like i said.

as i said in the hhg man, you gotta know the ruled before you bend them.  always exciting to see a bend.  i know you know the rules.

I was more refering to stipe, seems like i triggered him with parafilm and Ziploc bags.

Yes, i do everything in front of the flowbox. I open the jars just halfway, then open the bags just slightly. and in one smooth movement, i transfer the rye into the bags and close them immediately.

Next step is inoculating them with the agar wedges and close again. MP tape over the entry and reopen the bags, when they are sealed with the MP.

It's a 10 minute additional work, but totally worth it for me.

Works like a charm and B&S is so much more convenient.

i see.  i was going to ask that next.  i still see a major vector but if your sterile work is dialed i could see it working out.  um.

dont.. shoot me here but like.. why not use bags and patches? does it not accomplish the same thing minus the sketchy transfer?

i seem to remember seeing some high-temp rated ziplock.. bag.. product thing a while back.  i think it was silicon based or something.

im just spitballin here man.  i also hate the break and shake.  i have bruises on my thigh all the time and people always give me shit like "bro just use a phone book" or "bro just bash it on a tire" and i have to remind them, "bro, i live in an apartment.  i dont have tires laying around and im not taking my spawn jars out to the parking lot.  and if i started bashing jars on phone books the neighbor below me would lose her shit"

so of course i see the benefit man.  i just have curiosities

Why is my mycelium all spikey?



I've used these unmodified tubs in the past but I just started using a new brand of coir and also doing a pseudo case.

Before the change mycelium would grow in circles and not spikes.

spikey myc aka aerial myc is generally associated with high co2 environment and thought to occue due to lack of fae.  ive had some really awesome spikey tubs but im this jackass that melts a bunch of holes in my shoeboxes and calls them ez dial shoeboxes... so . ya know.

see, why go on a difficult search for phone books, if you can just make on sketchy transfer of grain and all is set :smile: :grin:

I see your points absolutely beef, maybe i should try bags and patches one day. These are PCable? right?

But yeah, i think i can say, that my sterile procedure is good. i did around 30-40 grows so far and never had contam. can't be luck, right? :laugh:

Come to think of it the last time I saw a phone book was about 15 years ago when we were getting drunk in my garage and shooting phone books with the .22

I was a smart kid.

30 grows? it can totally be luck.  1000 grows?  id say its sound.

yes growbags are pc'able doggy.  its a tale as old as time.  im not a fan but i do wish i didnt have the break and shake problems that i do. 

look for those silicon ziplocks.  i think it could actually be cool.  you could install a filter disc with high temp silicon.

That is helpful thank you. This new brand of coir is much finer than the last brand I used. It has a similar consistency to dirt. It let me compact it a lot more. The previous brand I used was more like strands of husk.

I'm guessing that allowed more oxygen to make it deeper into the substrate considering that it's the same tub just different substrate material.

I can adjust my tub to allow more fresh air but it might affect my Surface conditions a bit.

Maybe I'll look into hydrating this brand a little more to accommodate the need for more fresh air.
