What color was the fire?
Because if it was one of those lithium ion batteries catching on fire, it looked pretty.
If the initial burst of fire was just smoky orange regular looking fire then it probably was a bomb. Then later, it would’ve changed colors as the lithium ignited.

I called it last night.

After driving 30k miles through most of the state West of the Mississippi for fun since September.

Shit is hitting the fan.

I don’t know what to make of this. That was a legitimate explosion. I don’t think batteries would behave like that unless they are inside a sealed container. Almost looks like fireworks, but that could be battery contents igniting in air

Tesla batteries are designed so that any fire or explosion is directed downward and out.  That looks like the battery got ignited by some explosion inside of the vehicle. 

Either way, it was an ugly vehicle that had it coming.

This was a bomb. This starts at the first frame of the explosion. It is coming out from under car and through the windows. This was a bomb either placed in the undercarriage or maybe just on the floor of the car. Second frame shows the explosion evacuating material from the back end. Third frame I believe is a plume of nitrogen dioxide, which would indicate the use of a simple nitrogen based explosive. Last frames show what are likely battery contents splattering and igniting.

Given the timing, accidental detonation of fireworks is not implausible

Remember when lapd overloaded the bomb truck with flash powder fireworks?

That’s what I thought at first. But it is very clear that this explosion originated at the bottom of the car. It was a legitimate detonation.
