Isn't that what the fan pointing into the water is for? I saw a demo on this and it was blowing mist fairly aggressively out of the exhaust holes.

And yea I'm actually growing lions mane and oysters...

The fan pushing the mist into the tent should be hooked up to run at the same time as the ultrasonic

Still want another fan to circulate inside of the tent

And an exhaust fan that is on all the time, creating negative pressure. You don't need it running full speed or anything.

With oysters especially, you really want to make sure you are exhausting outside.

Who has a suggestion for a large dehydrator that isn’t terribly expensive.
My little square one does a good job but it’s just not big enough and I don’t wanna have fruit sitting around for two or three days in my fridge while I’m trying to work through them.

Not sure whether this was a joke or not but I'm clicking the bait anyways: feel free to (let) spent more money on a tub then one needs to pay. If it makes you happy, we're happy.

For the price of a pre-made tub you can probably also ask for a drill. And probably also including such cheap hole drill sets. At least I know a store that will suit you both for under 47 euros.

One can also make holes with eh lots of stuff. Heated cans, (heated) knife, etc.

A hot utensil makes for drill bit substitute.with less chance of cracking the plastic...

For shoe box or tad larger, yeah......
But I wouldn't  pull a full mono with shredded nar.

They suck ass, hard, and not in the cool way.

For half the price of one you could pick up a cheap drill at harbor freight or a similar discount tool store and make tubs all day.

Don't give your money to the scammers.


Thanks guys. I appreciate the brethren saving me from myself here. I have depression and currently I'm going through a very depressed period. A lot going on too. My dad almost died and I've taken care of him for 16 years. I'm 30 and I foresee his health getting worse, not being able to pursue my own goals and health to be with him so he's not alone in this world.

So when xmas is coming up and my dad and I love mycology, he's asking what I want, I can't think of anything and I was like I dont have transportation to get a plastic tub, I dont have a power drill and their tub is like 36$ Do it was enticing.

But these are the responses I needed

@cybork Wow I should've looked up power drills that might be what I should get. I got him 71$ worth of half of bose earbuds with my brother so I'm sure he can swing that thanks :hug:

The hot knife method left me with many scars when making my SAB the hot can method sounds good but I'll probably just get a drill.


I wish I could get a PC essentially I have 40-70$ tops expendable per month and I can't save it because most months I'm saving to pay off debt for my root canals. Think I've saved up about 700$ out of 2k so that's a good start but it's 24 month interest free so until I pay that off I usually use 30$ in my entertainment budget per month. And this month is xmas so I'm pretty over budget there atm.



Anyways one more question what drill bits do you guys use the most for modding tubs? Are they standard in a drill kit?

It was my best guess at that moment. I had a bin full of red wigglers. And two tubs if spawn that were supposed to go to a friend. The tubs were one the same balcony as the worms for I guess a week, maybe two. When we emptied them at my friend's place, the lower parts seemed to have uncolonized and were literally crawling with worms. Our best guess at the time was the worms ate the myc.

You talking about mixing with other species or just from multiple cube grows?

I have generally stored whole then blend to powder the day I'm making caps.

No. Be a terminator now. Get it out of your grow room asap, to lessen even more spores.

I don't know whether it's aspergillus; I think you have to microscope to find out.

Is there any sort of "lost" or changed potency depending on when you harvest or  dry the fruits? There have been times I've been traveling and have come back to see some pretty mature fruits that could have been harvested a few days prior!

I am struggling and at wits end. I grow beautiful cultures on agar, then liquid then grain with very very little contamination. The jars are thick white and smell amazing.
I made straight coir as a sub and mixed 1.5 sub to 1 grain. The coloration always goes well for the first couple of weeks with the tubs almost fully colonised but when I took them down to see if it started to pin, I knotised they now have Trichy starting on top.
I have got through the cycle 3 times. First I thought it was the coir so the second I PC'd for 2 hours. The 3rd was a different brand of coir.
The first two I used the same water spray bottle and thought that was the case but the 3rd time I didn't use any spray bottle at all.
Any ideas what I could be doing wrong?

We need images of your agar plates and then your jars to draw any real conclusions.

I always use CocoBliss coir and ive never had a cycle fail yet, In the event you are looking to settle on a brand.

Which grain do you use, how do you prep your grain, are you sure they're fully hydrated?
Are you venting your PC?
Are your tubs and all your equipment fresh and clean?
Are you using modded lids or unmodded lids? If modded, what mod?
Are you working in a SAB? If so, do you load it with all things sprayed down first, do you wait for the dust to settle before working etc.?
(I personally use a bleach soaked towel on the bottom. This solved a lot of my contam issues)
Do I understand you correct that you're making a LC first? (If so, this might actually be the issue. Have you tried straight A2G?).

I used water tub tek to do a test grow of edibles, oyster and lion's mane.  It worked, with and without a small mister.

When doing a tent, be advised that the smaller the space, the harder it actually is to maintain stable parameters, so you will have to put more effort in.

Same species, different grows/varieties. I had quite a bit of nats on hand, so I ground, mixed, and started on capsules.

I made some CVG using just 1/6th of a 650g brick using the bucket tek. I poured the hot water which wasn't much and it didn't stay hot for long at all. Within 15 minutes or so I was already able to mix it with my hands. I don't think it was properly pasteurized at all since it was such little water and and cooled down too quick.

Would the CVG be good to use? Or should I steam sterilize it in a mason jar inside a pot or PC it? I was thinking of just steam sterilizing it in a pot instead of PCing it. And if I do need to do that or PC it, for how long?

It is my understanding that PCing your substrate gives other contamination an edge over just pasturizing it. And I personally haven't had much contamination issues using bucket tek substrate weeks after it's been sitting in my cooler.

I can mix 2000g of substrate by hand within an hour in my cooler, it still is hot af though. I personally would still probably run the sub you made.

Or just make more if you have more coir.
