I actually did that once with some leftover agar in a tupperware haha. It got full of nasty shit, specially green mold which I think was trichoderma. That nasty mold is all around my place and usually infects my pf cakes before they can give a second flush.

That’s why the concept of enmeshed mold is so strange to me. The myc looks a lot like cube myc but “weird” and not like any other contam I’ve grown voluntarily or by accident :weirdeyes:

Sorry for double posting and I know it’s not agar, but this brf puck with a josex poke is the best/most rhizo growth I’ve ever had lol. Maybe I’m just doing something wrong with my agar/plates/sterile technique :facepalm:

That agar looks like it would be easier to find locally in a health food type store. Where I live, there are tons of Asian folks, which means great food everywhere, but somehow none of the Asian grocery stores carry Telephone brand :what:

Has anybody come across an agar (100%,powdered) brand that has caused issues?

I've used many and all seem well. I've even used that one. Its just such a small bottle. I've got a bigger bag now of another that has lasted a good minute.

I use the same as Camera. I haven't needed to order anymore since I have plenty stocked but I believe it was the cheapest option on the zon at the time

Brand of agar is one of the last things you need to worry about

Hello! First time posting :hi:

Trying to grow Cubensis, cannot figure out if this is mycelium or some mold (most likely). Put some spores on raw agar one month ago, of the other two plates one didn't result in anyting, the other got moldy. Any hints? What should I be looking at? Any good posts that would illuminate me?

You see how disorganized the mycelium is and no clear direction it wants to travel. That's mold



Here's an example of healthy growth growing outwards. Although this species isn't cubensis, the growth direction is still a good example.

However, now that I think of it, how much did you cover the plates with spores? That could also be a problem which would lead to the confusing growth and not necessarily bad. Take a transfer just in case to see how it grows from there. If it's all crazy like that again, definitely bad.
