Nice! One day I need to try making oyster buckets. Did you use straw or something else?

I definitely harvested the pinks I grew a little earlier than I might have otherwise since they started smelling a little pungent. I'm not sure I'd go quite so far as piss :lol: but I definitely didn't trust it to keep in the fridge. It cooked up really nicely though. I sauteed them in butter, adding garlic when they were pretty much cooked, then added some flour and a bit more butter to make a lazy roux, then added chicken broth, let it thicken up, and had it over pasta.

Pinks definitely have an odd smell. My dog LOVES them, even more than normal treats. I’ve got a big bag of dry ones for her now. She won’t touch blues, pearls, chestnuts or lions mane. Only pinks  :lol:

Straw but for this bucket I put down an inch layer of wood chips as I couldn’t be assed adding a drainage hole and the straw still had some draining to do, before that I’d been trying 50/50 straw and spent subs per Alaskans tek but the subs were the main source of contam, not sure how he’s getting around that, now have buckets and bags coming in (:
Def trying that recipe!
And they’re growing in our laundry with an open door as it’s hot here so I only get the occasional waft of smell, definitely very much like urine.

They just don't look look like blues, is what I was getting at- nor have I noticed a piss smell from blues. However, I'm still not really fond of oyster myc smell.

Those are pinks for sure - I think he was mentioning blues as the next thing to try. Pink oyster definitely has a different aroma (or odor depending on your sensitivity and the age of the mushroom :lol:) compared to P. ostreatus and eryngii. But it sure is pretty - even the plates turn pink.

Once again I’ve underestimated the oyster spore load.

Apparently they can get into wrapped plates?? I’ve never heard of this but I had some weird stuff on with a plate and asura said oyster spores can get in. The plate in question I don’t think is oyster but I went and dug through the stacks I have sitting out and sure enough



Definitely oyster myc starting out at the top.

I just got some surprise chestnuts also.

I gave up on the few bags of chestnut and black pearl I had in the tent forever and shut everything off like two weeks ago. Opened it to clean it up today and found this, open bag with no humidifier running and it still did great

These guys sat in a colonised bag for about 3 months without pinning, threw them in the garden about 2 months ago and now they decide to fruit 😑 starting to think my garden is the best place to grow gourmet from now on.

Haha! It ain’t all that, it’s just 2 large agapanthus patches in partial shade, provides a nice humid microclimate along with good air flow, I’m actually going to have to start clearing out the old subs as it’s starting to build up in there, we do have a large herb garden but it’s pretty overgrown right now and definitely not photo worthy.

For pios in particular my guess is that there's a large pinset and one of the pins literally lifts another on its cap. Both mushrooms continue to mature.
