As I say these are first transfers, assuming the other dishes are clean is it better to grow them out and then select the best fruit to clone from? Opposed to further isolating the mycelium?

That would make a lot of sense to me, I ask because I have read people saying they like to make two transfers before putting agar to grain, but I would of thought a wider diversity to select clones from would be a more desirable starting point.

You should not be making assumptions about the cleanliness of a plate by the amount of transfers. You can take 2 transfers of mold and it will still be mold.

You shared (what I think were multiple plates) and I suggested what you do with the plates that looked most promising. As far as diversity goes you don't know what kind of growth the plate would result in unless you go through the long term process of collecting a true isolation.

Sorry I think my last post was poorly written, I would agree that not making assumptions of the cleanliness of the plate based off of the number of transfers is best practise, I have read such logic on these forums before and was questioning if it was necessary to always make 2 transfers, if the culture grown from the first transfer appeared clean.

What I meant by the comment regarding diversity was that by making transfers if they were not necessary due to contamination, I would be reducing the diversity of what fruit will be produced before knowing what the fruit the culture produces would be like, and it would be my assumption that if my intention is to isolate the best genetic I would first grow the cultures out, as diverse as possible and then select the best mushrooms to clone, before proceeding with further isolating.
