Been messing with agar for about 2 months, and have transferred and made good plates and sent to grain successfully. Wondering about this plate though. It's a T1 from a cloned fruit plate. Is this round discoloration bacteria under the mycelium? I see similar discoloration on the other plates from the same fruit. Strange. Plate looks great to me other than that. Experts???

Out of the 2 clean transfers one has developed scalloped edges and will be tossed, the other will be used as master.

Maza does weird things. It grew for me on every single side of my blocks no matter the liner/no liner, etc. One was so spiked myc that I thought it was running from something but nope! Just Maza.

Took a bunch of x7x+ transfers for t0โ€™s. Made too many germ plates. The stack in back is all germ plates . I also transferred some Dick Maketi Clone (DKC). From an absolute monster I cloned and am hopeful for. Needs some cleaning.

Got those weird ass looking "jack frost"s (fwiw). Looks like any regular cube but the odd thing is that the top layer of the cap is completely translucent (hard to capture on pics) and looks kinda slimy/wet for no reason, and the mycelium grows onto the plate lid often and bruises heavily so it makes me wonder if they're not just a weird iteration of nats or something that got mixed in with what I should've gotten (they grow almost identical to my nat plates, maybe just a tiny bit less fluffy)
IG we'll know when I send those to bulk in a few days at most

edit: Full plate pic and it's also a germ plate so it's fucky by nature
edit2: Added a clean transfer plate for porn

Iโ€™m really tempted to send these x7x+ T1 cups once theyโ€™re grown out but I should probably make one more transfer for a lil more uniformity. Maybe Iโ€™ll send one and take a couple transfers from the other

And this whitewater germ cup that keeps growing more and more knots but just wonโ€™t give me the satisfaction of my first plate pin. Anyone ever just transferred a knot? Could that still potentially produce a non fruiting culture?

Do that. The second one!

I love how x7x+ is already showing the rhizo it almost always has. It'll probably be rhizo on grain and in the shoebox too.

I'd let the one you're sending fill that cup first. Post a pic please before you send it though.

Wait a week or 2 and it will probably start pinning on the plate if you leave it alone.

You already got knots and early pins

Hello hope everyone's good.

Wondering if anyone can help me troubleshoot my agar issues. It's one thing I never really ran into problems with until recently & it's driving me a bit nuts.

So I ran out of pre-mix a while back and changed supplier, I now buy D900 agar & LME seperately, and generally mix 10g of both to 500ml & PC.

No matter what I do it won't set fully, I've tried lowering and upping PC times and using more agar, but it's just soupy & gelatinous.

One thing I have noticed is there's always a small patch of solidified agar at the bottom of the glass bottles I use, which led me to think I just wasn't mixing it properly, so I went at it for about 5 minutes straight shaking the shit out of the bottle; but had the same issue.

I contacted the supplier he assured me there's no issues with the agar, which I know is almost certainly true & it's probably something I'm doing, but I cannot figure out what.

Like I said, never had this issue before - has anyone else??

Edit: Is it possible that leaving it in the PC to cool causing a separation issue? I usually just pour warm but wasted too many plates so stopped doing it until I figured out the problem.

TIA!!

Please test the pH of the water you are using, if it's too acidic your agar won't gel properly.

So as this germ plate develops I'm seeing rhizomorphs at 3 and 6 mixed into the floccose growth, which makes me think that I'm seeing both spore germination and recovery of clone material from the gills.

I've never once saw germ plates express rhizo from spore.

How long did it take for mycelium growth occur. Was it even? Did the rhizo growth develop faster? I would think it could be possible for rhizo to eventually form on s germ plate from spore.

I usually assume if the growth is immediate (within just a few days, itโ€™s a clone.)

Purely speculative atm but, the floccose mycelium came first, the rhizo was late stage. I'd expect if any fruit tissue was the revive it might take a while considering the temperature used to desiccate.

I'll know for sure when I plate stipe tissue.

Now somebody try to tell me the genetic material on one side of the plate is 100% dissimilar to the opposite side.

To this:

Notice how the overall morphology remains similar? Despite choosing from the rhizomorphic side the resulting growth shows the exact same morphology as the parent plate.

Hoping for someone to tell me what this pretty thing might be? It's bright white, Super dense, hasn't changed colors and has no mushroom smell to it, pulled growing next to but not with a clone of Ghost.
