One might actually argue that the vibration of the particles (however subtle in a solid object) qualifies as "alive"...

one could, but one would be wrong, because everything in the universe has some degree of subatomic vibration. If "alive" included that vibration, then it would encompass everything in the universe and therefor be a useless term.

my definition of life was handed down from god, and I promised not to tell anyone

however, I will tell you if a particular thing is alive or not

my desk, for example, is more alive than the plastic in my keyboard, because the components of the desk were alive more recently (wood), whereas the plastic in my keyboard was never alive, and the particles that make it up have not been part of a living entity for a very long time, if ever

Are viruses alive?

Here is a recent discovery that further blurs the distinction between life and non-life:

Nanobacteria are 100-fold smaller than bacteria. Many viruses are bigger than them. They are present in some humans, animals and in environmental sources. They are like a robotic device using nonliving survival principles or building materials. Nanoscopic calcium phosphate mineral, in crystal or amorphous form, are a major part of their 'cell-wall? that is able to perform biogenic mineralization. Their mineral binds many metal ions having catalytic functions and can co-crystallize with lipids as well. These unique characteristics indicate nanobacteria may have bio-medical and bio-industrial applications.

I agree with this :smile: I believe all matter in the Universe is expanding consciousness.

Absolutes absolutely do not exist in the eyes of the absolute...I believe all things are interconnected in one way or another, absolutely.

The only thing that is certain is uncertainy.

I think statements like this illustrate our limited ability to grasp the full truth of reality/being. They are signs that point to truths we cant conceptualize or actualize fully and/or clearly. They seem to be true...but they also seem to be paradoxes, perhaps any real truth is at the center of what we because of our limited ability to comprehend reality as whole call "paradox". That infact the truth is something wholely alien to us.
