bro I want to just cry and give up so bad :sad: I've spent so much fuckin money and time on this shit its like not even worth it anymore. I wouldn't be so upset if I just knew what I was doing wrong... back to the box I go, I'll try a spore print for the first time and see if that's better than swabs.

Yea I've been there. I'm at the point now where it really doesn't even bother me anymore. I've thrown away probably close to 100 shoeboxes worth of materials. I post pics of my agar and spawn here, people tell me it's good, then it goes bad before fruiting anyway. Or even more frustrating, it doesn't contam but never fruits either. Just sits there for 2-3 months before dying without a single pin.

I've taken so much advice and changed things and ran so many experiments (water agar, blank plates, blank jars, no pours, LMA, LMYA, PDA, oats, BRF pucks to water agar, 2 different PCs, etc, etc) I've quite literally exhausted all contingencies at this point. There's nothing else to do differently :shrug:

I'm still going to keep at it though. This most recent round is seeming a bit more promising for whatever reason. Plus there's always that nagging thought in the back of my mind of "what if I end up quitting just before the finish line...?". So I just keep on keeping on.

Persistence overcomes resistance.

I feel this already and I just started. just ordered an LC syringe from another vendor instead of spores. Hopefully that works better, otherwise I'll go to prints and try that way. Is it the water screwing things up? I use a sterile inoculation loop to spread the single drop.

Hard to tell. Seems like its grown too fast just for 3 days. Also has that wet look to it. The thready leading edges seem.like myc though. Give it more time

I got that super faint growth when i transferred to what was basically water agar.

I was trying to make my own PDA by boiling potatoes and using the water, but i never measured the amount of potatoes, pry didnt boil long enough either. The myc acted like it was lacking nutes for sure.

same cultures kinda bounced back on LME. Started faint just like that, then began to get denser near the leading edge as it grew out

this is LME I transferred from the very edge of my germination plate, like you could barely see anything. Even my gf was like why isn't there anything on this piece? haha if you look closely you can see some thick white starting on the transfer piece. So we will see I will keep you guys updated. I just inoculated 2 plates via print so we will see... first time working with prints so it's a crapshoot. AKA is the man so I'm hoping he is right and I'll just wait it out for now.

what do the plates you transferred from look like now? And how long has it been since you transferred? :strokebeard3:

N/m i reread and see its been 3 days.
have the old plates gotten any denser?

You'll get used to it. I dumped several sleeves of plates after realising the sleeves were damaged put of the box last week and likely causing the bacteria in grain master jars I've been struggling with. Before that my pressure cooker gave a false temperature value and sterilisation failed, resulting in everything contaminating in weird ways with no obvious pattern. Before that, problems with LC containing bacteria that was only evident by microscopy. All in the last few months. It's fine. You're doing fine. Growing psychedelic mushrooms well is hard.

What I will say for weird plates is that going way back to T0 or regerminating is usually the way to clean them up. Try different media if you want. I've had batches of malt extract that behaved weirdly. My current batch has an insane amount of protein in it and likes to permanently denature and precipitate out after 25 minutes, for instance.
