Oh i never claimed that i wouldnt need help. Im sure the day is coming when im in front of an obstacle wich i dont have the means or know how to cross. Propably when i get my hands on some Pan cyan spores! =P

Seems like 99% of people in shroomery mushcult use the Bucket Tek. I do not and for saying this they call me arrogant cause i dont have pictures of my own mushrooms here. The mycoforum of my country just got their proof of shroomerys hostility. I do like it here though becaus of the agar. The archives are valuable.

My technical first attempt, which ended in utter failure, involved trying to follow the instructions in the Magic Mushroom Grower's Guide by Oss and Oeric (aka Stamets and Mckenna) which I ordered from the Loompanics Unlimited catalog. We ordered spores from Fungi Perfecti. I was 16 and knew absolutely nothing about sterile technique, or trying something over and over and over again as a strategy for either success or some sort of useful lesson.

My first actual grow was with a syringe and instruction booklet from Psilocybe Fanaticus (Bob Mcpherson) a year or so before he got raided by the DEA. I ordered them from an ad in High Times.

This was all effectively pre-internet for me, and these two leads were the ONLY information I had access to. I'm sure I would have done Uncle Ben's tek if microwaveable rice and Reddit were actually major things in the 90's.

Though my initial attempt was a failure, I did read and digest a book about spore prints, agar, and grain jars very early in my life. So after that, I had a frame of reference to place any additional information into, and when I tried PF, I immediately got why it was so epic for the small personal grower. After that, I wouldn't have fallen for UB tek or any of this youtube bullshit. But if 16 year old me had encountered Boomer Shroomer first, I probably would have had a wank over her and then taken it all as gospel. If I had seen one of the janky High Times ads first, I totally would have gone down that rabbithole, too.

I actually find Terrence and Dennis did a really good job of explaining sterile technique in an SAB.

I didn’t even get the UB info from Reddit. I did eventually browse there for help before immediately finding shroomery instead. A real life friend of mine suggested it, which makes it even more of a miracle that it worked twice before failing. Did everything in the open air and managed to still get fruits.

Now if I don’t pray and hold my breath I get bacterial jars.

Had I followed through, re-read the book carefully, and given it a second shot, I think I would have done alright. As it was, it did inform all future endeavors. Like some community college course, intro to amateur mycology 101.

I basically recall getting a batch of plates that didn't work out, and immediately giving up. Might have coincided with getting distracted by the sheet of acid I bought from some old school biker dude outside a JGB show at Oakland Coliseum.

I do think that contaminant load plays a role. I lived in 3 different apartments while getting away with the spores to grain shortcut.

That's really the perfect analogy for that book. Especially the first two chapters but it also does help provide a good run through of the whole process which makes reading random teks on the internet that focus on one particular step so much easier to understand and place into sequence with others.
