Thanks for the answer but not exactly what I was looking for. I also buy em 500 at the time and have poured hundreds.

Just not with a real media bottle (that doesn't have a GE hole like my home made ones).

I was just wondering if I was supposed to let it cool with the lid not tight. I presume from that experience the answer is yes.

I did pour the plates - I value my time more than a stack of plates so yeah no big deal if they aren't good.

Agar was getting cold or you ran out while pouring?

A lot of my plates are like that I don’t want to over pour and forgot to swirl the stack. Oh well. Also could be the wrong advice but I don’t loosen my media bottles at all before putting them In the pc I tighten them like normal and they do fine.

As I said I let the PC get to room pressure, and I never tighten those lids, but I don't really "let it cool,"

My agar is very hot when I pour it....because I leave the PC lid loose on the PC, but sitting on top of the PC.

I pull out one media bottle (holding with gloves and folded up toilet paper because it's too hot to touch), then bring the bottle with the lid on, and loose, over to my pour area.

After pouring one bottle, I put the empty media bottle back in the PC when I grab another bottle, so the residual agar liquid in the empty bottle doesn't get solid and hard to clean.

When I'm all done pouring all 7 or 8 bottles, I take the PC with empty bottles back into the kitchen to clean up.

Note: you can use pint wide mouth jars with mason lids with holes and synthetic filters as well as media bottles. Those I finger tighten before PC, it's fine because the filter equalizes the pressure from inside with out.

Agar is already room pressure, but not cool, when I pour. Each media bottle is too hot to touch when I pour, because each bottle sits in the hot water in the PC until I grab it to pour it.

I set the PC on a couple layers of cardboard so it doesn't burn the table I put it on. (all this is in the link I mentioned, I didn't want to retype all of it.)

I don't use a thermometer with agar, but it's never cool until after I pour it.

Do you guys usually let your agar cool? I make to pour. I don’t trust it to sit at room temp honestly. Make it and pour before it cools.

Nope. People let it cool because they were told to by someone who read it somewhere.

Or because they're worried about getting condensation but I let my poured plates sit for 10 days anyway before using, to check for contam, so that's not an issue.

Any few that get condensation I store upside down, then the water  absorbs back into the air in the Petri.

When I said "let it cool" I meant :

I wait until my bottle have cooled enough to be handled with my bare hand (hot to the touch but not painful). Only then do I start pouring.

Ohhhh ok. My only advice there would be to keep the cap loose until ready to pour, but you’ve probably already figured that.

I pour at a phase still far too hot for a bare hand. I wrap and tape a piece of wadded foil to the shoulders of my media bottle for a heat exchange so I can do so.

how many times have i said that i dont wait for a certain temp to start pouring?

waiting too long is a great way to have chunky and solid agar left over.

plastic autoclaveable beakers with spouts and handles for the win. my hand couldnt care less about the temp of the agar. i have 2 of those exact same 1L pyrex media bottles. i only use them for LC. not for pouring media. handling hot glass sucks.

If so I feel bad.

If not, I'm good.

OK. So he posts 33 posts a day, mostly talks and doesn't read on here.

Now I'll post a pic tax so I keep with the mood of this forum. the one on the right dried out for months and I brought it back to life.

I get the feeling I shouldn't bother typing long detailed answers for you because you aren't reading them.

Read back a few where I said I pour too hot to touch, and use folded up toilet paper (or paper towels) to hold it because even with gloves the media bottle is too hot to touch when I pour.

I commented on this to you yesterday but you didn't see it, of course: You post an average of 33 posts a day since you've been here. Do you read or just post? haha.

Dude, I'm not sure what you want from me. I didn't ask a tutorial about how to PC and pour agar. You pour hot, cool.

And no you shouldn't bother typing long answers because my question was quite simple and I feel it could have been answered in a few words.. Like Smellyhobbit did :

People don't read half of what I write and maybe half of them don't understand half of it even if they do. I still write.

High post count is just indicative of muchness in participation and there is nothing wrong with that. We all participate in different ways. Some people come to say, and some people come to hear and some people come for both. Some people converse and banter and trade jargon. Some people like cut and dry info, facts, processes, recipes and knowledge.

It takes all kinds.

I enjoy Rusty's banter as well as I enjoy gleaming info from lengthy explanations by nektar.

Post count is moot.
