I just poured 50 plates and found a single lid with a crack less than a cm long near the edge of the lid. Iโ€™ll be looking over what I poured carefully, but so far they seem to be in really excellent shape. I probably could have used that lid with the crack, but thatโ€™s ok. Iโ€™ll live lol.

All in all Iโ€™m really happy with the purchase.

Nice. I purchased a pack of 500 from the ole Amazonโ€™s and probably half of the sleeves had damage. Thatโ€™s what I get with dealing with Amazon distribution though. Lol

Maybe I'm just lucky but I got mine from Amazon also and 500/500 are pristine

I wanted those :mad2:

But I didnโ€™t look close enough and when I went to actually buy them last week it was a no go.

Thankfully I was able to find a second option. Honestly thereโ€™s a chance I could have damaged the plate that was cracked. Iโ€™ve been exhausted lately and I may have set that box down real hard when I brought it in.

I'm happy you managed to get some. Hope the price was similar. And honestly if you had 1 cracked out of 500... that's very good :super:

I will have to check those out.

I got a 500 pack of Thomas 7453 from amazon.

No cracks in the first 100 used so far, and didn't see any in my external look at the sleeves.

Got them for $0.25 a plate.  The price went up after I ordered.

Eager to hear more on your plates.

I've finally decided to start doing agar, and I want to do it with the no pour way. I was thinking of recycling the half pints (no wide mouth, unfortunately) that I successfully used for the PF-TEK / shoeboxes I've done. I'd put microtape on the 4 holes of the caps. Here a generic picture of the jars:

What do you think? I wouldn't be as comfortable as having Petri dishes, but then I wouldn't be able to do no pours using them.

What are your thoughts?

That would work. Why settle for no pour?

It would allow me to avoid buying Petri dishes (but I kinda want to work with them tho) and, specially, with the no pour method you just straight take off the pour in SAB step. I figured it would be much easier, in general, to just cook the agar recipe, pout in the kitchen, sterilize and just store them for future use.

No pours will work fine. I still use them to reduce my plate consumption. I use anchor half pint regular mouth jars with sfd lid, or unmodded plastic lids.
I remember when I used to use nothing but no pours though it was really frustrating seeing what's going on in there. Now I can finish on a real petri dish and know I'm clean before going to grain.
It's a lot less frustrating.
I also have some old glass petris sitting in storage. Never really used them though couldn't figure out an effective way to run them that would be better than no pours or single use. If I had more of them they could be effective but I don't. :justdontknow:

Yeah, that's my only concern: actually analyze what's going on in there.

Someone has tried to do no pour with Petri dishes? Some say that it wouldn't work because the agar would boil and "ruin" everything, some say that it worked for them. Petri dishes costs 15โ‚ฌ for just 5 around here, don't know if it's a fair price.

No pours can be done with tempered glass petris, but not plastic.

Yes, I was referring to glass Petris. : ) Have you tried? If so, no problem with the agar boiling and splashing all over the dish / dish cap?

No, I thought I remembered this being an option but it bothered me after I typed it. Did a search and no one really does it.

Ackchyually...

I used this tek and it works pretty well. Only a few plates were completely condensation free right after, but they do dry out in a few days.

Poisoned's glass petri no-pour tek

Perfect. My correction was mostly my way of saying I have no idea what Iโ€™m talking about. Thank you for your input.
