I believe you bro, there's a lot of angles on those kids to throw funky light.

There sure is and the fact that my lab is in a grow tent which is highly reflective probably doesn't help.

I was being sincere about taking another pic though. But thank you for believing me.

It's pretty obvious you know what you're doing, but I have a hard time biting my tongue when I see something.

Alright, so is it safe to assume that's bacterial growth?

Question for agar experts. After I swip the dish with a swab how long does it usually take for you to see something on the dish and at which temperature range should the dish be at ? Can I swip a dish and take it with me in a bag on an all day trip ?

depends, but somewhere within a week usually for first signs
sometimes there can be some weird looking myc when temperatures shift a lot
room temp is fine

Depends on fresh it is, just swiping a swab usually isn't that successful for me but dunking the whole swab tip or looping from a spore print I usually see growth starting in like 3-5 days.

not an expert, but in my experience all my plates start showing first signs of growth as early as 4-5 days, or no later than week.

spore solution took much longer but only tried 1 or 2 varieties swabs are fast for me

Sorry, i was referring to this post -

Yo! Thinking I have some bacteria riding along both these plates

PE t3 has major off white discoloration in middle, also is wispy opposed to outer edge

APE t1 has that film surrounding myc - is that normal or bacterial?

If bacteria’s the case, would it make sense to keep taking transfers until
Culture is clean or is that just a lost cause?

Oh yeah, the second picture is bacteria lol. The first one looks better but I’d still transfer before sending

Need advice on my APE plates
This is one of T1 plate i did not use so far because i got better growth on other one.. but now 2 weeks or so later this one have very nice growth from 1-4 o'clock
Pic 1:

And this is T2, 4 days old from best looking T1... rly not impressed with this growth so far.. do you think something is riding along with myc on this one or i just need to give it a few more days to thicken up?
Pic 2:

My main question is, should i do T2 from plate in 1st pic and trash this T2 from pic 2

Edit: This is T1 plate i used for pic 2 transfer.. started good, ended  kinda shitty

Welcome to the wonderful world of ape myc

I spent a lot of time trying to clean up plates just like that and eventually just said fuck it and ran some shitty spawn to get a clone.

I've seen spores sprout after months...

A trick if they're slow is to put a wedge of some other live mycelium on the other side of the plate. A lot of the time the live mycelium will "wake" the spores so to speak. This can happen for a variety of reasons like, enzyme reaction, competitiveness, or sexy attraction. Motivation is key to life.

I said fuck it and did transfer from 2 o'clock from that T1 plate from pic 1...If it does not go funky ill use it for some spawn and clone hunt since that part looks nice and clean, lets just hope transfer will look like that also... btw. Any idea why center in pic 1 goes yellow? Is that something APE myc do? I dont think its old enough to call it aging or drying, i dont see metabolites and i dont think there is some mold present also..
