Hard to tell what that is.

But yeah plenty of clean spots to transfer.

Would you spawn these to grain, LC, or not all?

Just wanted to chime in with this.
I put this similar, but seemingly slightly worse, looking plate to oats a couple weeks ago just to see what it would do

It colonized in 14 days and didn't look too bad in the jars.
Went to spawn it a few days ago and it smelled awful. tossed the jars.
To me, it smelled like mold, not bacteria, but that's a complete guess based on not a whole lot of experience

Is this okay or is it fucked? All the black spots are spores that got knocked loose off the print after stabbing a few other plates. So there was quite a bit more than I normally use, but when I say "normally" I mean like 10 times.

I also don't know why I can see the leading rhizo edges at 7 o'clock in the pictures but in the box I just looked this plate for 5 solid minutes and couldn't see anything, hence why I posted. Do you eventually get better at this or should I just stop wasting everyone's time?

From the 2nd photo I'd try get 2 transfers from the 7o'clock edge and 1 from the 8o'clock edge

To my limited knowledge bacteria typically smells sweet while mold will have a earthy smell.... all myc smells sweet to me though so I have a hard time differentiating.

Mold is more of a musty sweet and myc is more of a clean smell, not like chemicals, but more like a well hydrated jog sweat, just humid and fresh

Your plate appears to be clean mycelium and your time to full colonization is about right. If your jars didn't stall out and looked good I'd use them for a shoebox grow at the very least. Is this your first time using oats, maybe they smell different than you're used to?

T3 TOC and RW plates going to grain in a few days. Dropped one of the RW plates and the center just fell out  :foreheadslap:

Also, a question: Does storing plates in the fridge completely halt growth or just slow it down extremely?

I appreciate your feedback! Sounds not so promising.
I'm going to hot pour these two on Monday afternoon and transfer again to new plates to see what happens.
I am very new at this still so a little uncertain what to look/smell for, but I have more advanced transfers of the original germ plates already that look slightly better.

An ape pin showing some really good growth. Going to take some transfers and see about going to grain with it in a few days.

That looks nice. Can I ask what the origin of the pin was?

I have some in BRF jars almost done colonizing, but I didn't know if they would be "clean" enough for transfer to agar...

That was a plate pin from an old t1 plate or else I wouldn't want to run it on grain.

No, it was definitely contaminated.
I've successfully gone agar-->oats twice and they smelled like fresh mushrooms at spawn. The smell of these jars made me wanna die.

Maybe it would have given me a flush before getting taken over, but to me that's not worth it. I don't really want a box like that around my clean ones

Any of y'all know what the fuck this is?
Been neglecting my plates and recently found this. It was a plate pin that I transferred and is now growing this strange mass.

Nastiest thimg I've seen yet while growing.

Only time your nose will help you is right before spawning.  Smelling plates tells you nothing.
Ambrose, variety? Looks like a mutant mushroom.

The variety is Aper or Albino Penis Envy reverted.
Based on the color and shape though, I would be surprised if it was cubensis. It has an orange hue underneath the fuzz(like an orange.)
It's creeping me out, I do not dare open the plate.

Re: AGAR ENVY! (Anything and All things agar!) [Re: Ambrose]

so ive got some thoughts id like to see verified or debunked. Im getting accustomed to working with agar so all of my questions or ideas are the beginning of an understanding and ultimately a knowledge.    I work with a flow hood and consider my environment clean. I just made six plates and have a few ideas about what's may have happened to these plates. please let me know what you think of my ideas. on one of the plates I knocked a little b+ print in and let it do its thing. it as you can see is showing signs of growth and no contamination. on the albino plates you can see contamination and slight mycelial growth, these are from a MS syringe. on the one labeled golden teacher you see no growth and no contamination.  what this means to me is that the albino syringe has a contamination, the golden teacher (from a random friend) is just sterilized water, and the b+ print is a 4 year old viable print. ive come to these conclusions because if the hood was the issue then all plates would be contaminated.  does this line of reasoning make any sense? thanks for your time.

Agreed. That's all bacteria from the syringe.

I agree completely! really stoked to have it play out like this as it verifies my flow hood is working. ive done smoke tests, ping pong ball tests, anemometers and who the hell knows what else. I guess im a silver lining kinda guy. thanks and have a great thanksgiving week!
