Hey guys! I need advise please!
I put spores to agar about 10 days ago, now my plates look like this:

it grows kinda "bubbly".. something I am not familiar with.
is it bacterial, too many spores?
should I transfer?

this is what i am seeing when i put too many spores or clumps of spores.

does not look like bacteria to me.

but... what do I know?  I have taken transfers from germ plates that look just like that and in most cased, much more "normal" growth starts immediately on the T1 plates.

Spore plates look weird a lot of the time especially initially. Give it some time and some normal myc should pop out eventually.

Started from two varieties of MS syringe to agar on 9/29.

Made a bunch of transfers from the original plates.

I'm 200 plates in as of 10/22.

A lot of my plates look like there's some cobweb mold intertwined with the mycelium.

It may be tomentose growth but i'm unsure after reading contamination threads and looking at many side by side photos.










A lot of them look okay, but there's a lot of fuzzy growth so id like a second opinion.

Looks like normal tomentose to me. From what I gather the likelihood of having rhizomorphic growth over tomentose is strictly a genetic gamble. Given enough time, it will transform to rhizomorphic growth the further it grows from the center. How soon it emanates from the center seems to be based on genetics.

These are transfers from some PE print I had from '09. The original print I worked with was from '05.

I finally got them to grow after several failed attempts. Transfers are more for propagation and not isolation but it's looking good I think. My intent is just to revive this old strain of mine, get some fruits and new prints.

Quick newbie tip learned the hard way!!  If you are using food coloring and going to oats, be careful of the color you pick!! I used a couple of different blues -that were very pretty- but every time I look at the jars, my heart lurches because it looks like mold. Particularly when draped in white mycelium. Nothing bad - it just scares me each and every time.  I showed my wife a jar and she went "Ack!  Mold!!"  In a way, it's a good reminder of what can happen if I drop my guard...but still!!

Also, don't wear a green shirt... ive had that happen a few times with a particular shirt...

wtf is this shit?  doesn't look like mycelium... (don't mind the plate.) wanted to cool the tool very fast and cut my transfers and went a little overboard





it popped up overnight on a very ugly swab germ plate that i fucked up to begin with.  haven't seen anything like it on any of my plates.  I leave plates out open for hours and then incubate them to see what i find. I do it in the hood and outside of the hood.  Just like to be aware of the pressure i am under.

kinda looks like myc, but it spread too far and doesn't seem to originate from a spore or spore clump... I may have fucked with the plate and a loop and a couple of 10microliter drops of sterilized water.

just curious if it looks familiar to anybody.

I never actually seen cobweb mold but It’s exactly what I’d picture it looking like. Or could be early pin mold. If by tomorrow it’s got black little pin heads at the ends that answers that

I assume all the junk growing around the pin is mold (looks like my SAB technique is trash), but what's the deal with the pin itself?  Is that just aerial myc?  Can't see it from the pic but there is a little bit of myc growing from the pin onto the agar.

One the donor plates for a food color comparison experiment 🧫 as part of a community experiments thread I need to find time to start. Only problem is I need to pour a few plates with no color as a control. Need to find time for that.

Just finished wrapping my first poured 18 plates.

Went ok but plenty of room for improvement. Definitely need to replace the batteries in my proper thermometer! I ended up having to us a digital medical thermometer that only reads up to 55C after that it just says 'HI'. So I kept checking the temp, I had my media bottle sat in water ala Bod's tek, and after it just reading HI for all the checks it suddenly read 42C! So I rushed to my SAB to start pouring! It was ok but starting to get a little lumpy.

I ended up not quite pouring enough in a couple of plates. I thought the agar would spread out more than it did. And some of the surfaces aren't perfectly smooth.

But the plates are clear and so far condensation looks ok.

Now the wait. 4 days and I'm in the clear right?

Either way they look nicer than my no-pours.
