I don’t use anything special, just an iphone and my hoods lighting. I do use an app that has a img stabilizer that won’t take the pic till you’re still.

Apps camera+

Oh and the lid is off that plate so no glare

i have been scared to uncover plates for pics. I feel like I am handling them too much because i NEED to see what's happening with them each day.

i have test plates out every work session. I keep them open in the hood while I am working and then close them and seal them and look at them 4 days later. I am going to buy a couple of different kinds of plates for this purpose... in a month I feel like i will have enough information to really have an idea of the risk of contamination while working in the hood. And then I'll be a bit less risk averse.

Doing my first a2g tomorrow, 7 jars. I'm stupid nervous. I've watched the sterile tek videos on this site more times than I can count but it still seems so improbable to me that I can go through 7 whole jars with no contams when a single plate transfer makes me nervous. What kind of contam rates do you guys get from a2g? Are there any teks you recommend? I've mostly looked at Munchauzen's vids and Mad Season's sterile tek thread.

My feeling is that these plates are clean. Any dissenting opinions?

This is about a week since I took spores from print to agar.

Is there any upside at this point to transfer each of these colonies to its own plate and give it more space for the different strains to differentiate without growing into one another? or should I leave it alone and let it all compete in there?

lol if this aint the truth, after my first failed pics the other day though i did try using one of those black body clear top fast food containers (not sure if you can see it but that was my black background on the second 2). massively cut down on the reflections of myself and helped me focus. was a pretty good setting for visibility, any low image quality past that is just my lack of talent hahaha but i digress.. try some black construction paper or something like that and it might help you to

nmd_myco those look real pretty, if you're wondering about a2g i'd probs still do at least one more transfer for what it's worth, and yeah i'd probably give each of them their own plate. i'm a hoarder with plates though so that's just me haha

I personally did really bad at first. My contam rate on plates in the SAB was very small so I thought it would be fine.

My issue was mostly juggling the two piece lids, and not placing things in the right spot so they’re convenient and prepped. Like I wouldn’t loosen the lid enough or id put the jar too far back so I had to move it while holding the wedge on the scalpel.

You’ll figure it out quick though. My main thing is if you’ve got two piece lids take the bands off and pop the lids loose first before starting.

My game plan is to pop all the rings off, open the pasty plate and leave it upside down, then flame and cut each transfer as smoothly as possible, drop the wedges into the jars by using the inner rim to get the wedge off, and get all the rings back on. Hearing about your first experience is making me more nervous lol, I would be straight depressed if I lost a jar this far into the process. Hopefully luck is on my side

One the big reasons I switched to the white no mod lids. That and they don’t rust. I did have one leak by though. Could hear a light high pitch whistle as it sucked air in after I took out the pressure cooker. Did that till it cooled. I marked it so I knew not to use that one.

I'm just getting into the white lids. (I hate the rust so much).

Not comfortable having unmodded lids just yet, just got the good ol' polyfil In a hole.

Excited to try them out this weekend!

Was that the only time you've had a problem with those lids D3?

multicolored options for the platic lids too. i like color coding my shit. most of the ones I am fucking with come with gaskets. i have a bunch of them flipped upside down on a paper towel with water in them and they seem to hold water with or without the gaskets.

Shake it really hard with no gasket. Water will come out.

I tried the 1/4 turn and hand tight with no gasket neither leaked until I shook it.

I think 8-11 looks good the rest could go either way.


I got tired of stressing about ge and possibly letting contams in with the plastic lids so I ended  up torching a nail and poking a hole in the middle and slapping some tape on it.

Best of both worlds, nice tight lid but super easy to handle while knocking up jars.

Looks just like a lot of my transfer plates from clone. Clean looking growth, but not a very strong white color and not much rhizomorphic ropes. I think it just means do some more transfers?

I've been wondering lately; are plates like this one clean cultures but weak growth, or are they not clean cultures? Is anything really 100% cubensis mycelium?

Hey guys. I had a plate pin in-vitro. I just grabbed the pin with my scalpel and and placed it on a fresh plate. Was that the right approach? Should I have tried to cut it in half? It was very small and I didn't want to keep the plate open long. Any help/advice is appreciated.
