I finally have myself a clean APE culture.
You guys have no idea how hard this was for me and how much pride I feel just having the one clean plate.
I've been trying to culture APE since getting a syringe that didn't germ at all except for the one rye jar out of the 25 jars I did.
I reused the jars that didn't germ and got a lot of B+
I fruited the jar and took clones from the tub, and for the past four months I've been transferring and transferring to escape mold and bacteria.
With each plate lost my confidence fell along with it
When FINALLY I got a clean plate. With other strains its just clean plates all day.
But APE... not a single clean culture until now. I'm going to take cuts, cross my fingers, and continue cultivating.

Congrats.

Looks like a good plate.

Is PE notoriously hard to culture on agar? Do you have violent radical feminist bacteria in your space?

I've been culturing six other kinds of cubensis at the same time as culturing APE.
APE seemed to just invite contamination in, my other psilocybe cultures left untouched.
Same SAB, technique, everything. But with APE came satellites of mold and bacteria.
EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
It was so frustrating. Idk if its like this for everyone and probably isn't but during this time I am working with B+, Golden Teachers, Burmas, Nepals, Gulf Coast, and AA+.

Is that PF classic? Best trip I’ve ever had of my
Life and it’s never been topped to date !!

Can’t wait to revisit it

Gorgeous culture

Close...it's a strain of PF Redspore I've isolated...drops a reddish purple print instead of the usual baby shit brown that Redspore normally drops.  If you let the spores fly the whole tub turns a burgundy wine color.  Hehe.  Here's a print next to a normal Mars variety print.

AFAIK all cubes and all species really work the same on agar.

Congrats on that ape plate man idk why but I had a hell of a time with ape too. Took me months to finally get a jar colonized and even then it was just “good enough”. Pretty sure the culture I was given had something meshed into it.

Personally I prefer front lit pictures, I like to see the myc really well.

I’ve posted this before but I’m gonna update it again just cuz the progress amazes me.

Natalensis has insane myc that climbs the lids and eats through tub liners. It took me a clone and four transfers but I finally got a normal looking culture going.

This is t2

And t4

Just dropped the big rhizo chunk to grain so hopefully it fruits normally for once and isn’t just a plate thing.

Is this pasty plate fucked? Can’t get a pic of the surface atm due to condensation but it looks like uniform rhizo growth that seems to be hitting a wall @ 3 o clock and becoming very whispy/fuzzy transparent white after that point. My initial fear is cobweb, looking for any advice on this. Thanks guys

Yeah looks like bacteria or something.

If you take a piece from the other side it’ll prob be fine.

Hey everyone. I just want some opinions on some plates that I am dialing in. I have two that have been transferred a couple times and one that i cloned off of a grow that is wrapping up. The plate I am particularly interested in is the Pesa hybrid. I have been trying to get this culture going for a little while and I may have set myself back by transferring mold. The mycellium has looked weird to me the entire time. More likely just my inexperience in recognizing healthy growth. Any help with these plates is welcomed.

What’s the highest amount of grain jars you guys have nocced up from a single pasty plate? Wondering if I could use one culture to inoc 7 jars

Following advice from some of the pros, I've been using nickel to quarter sized pieces for my grain jars. Just wait for the myc to take hold of a few pieces of grain, shake and roll to distribute and repeat until the myc is beginning to grow from all areas of the jar. Let it reach 100% colonization, shake 1 more time and if it recovers, spawn away.

Gotcha, looks like 7 jars from 1 plate won’t be happening lol. Getting through this initial stage of transfers has been testing my patience

I’m a beginner so my advice should definitely be taken with a grain of salt but at the very least the PE6 is lookin nice and healthy to me

Thanks Fish. I’m just nervous because of how fluffy it is I may just throw a couple chunks to grain and see what happens. The pesa looks really weak compared to the other myc I’ve grown out.

One of my best clones looked just like that pesa plate.

You can absolutely inoculate 7 jars with a pasty plate.

Its best to expand it to 7 plates so each jar get its own plate.

But that'll just speed things up.

I use one plate per jar or two plates to LI and knock up how ever many I need. I can’t imagine how long it would take a jar with just a few scraps of agar to take off. I imagine the longer it takes a jar to colonize the more opportunity for tams to take hold.

I'm with you D3, I cut up half a plate per jar and that's myc
almost grown to the edge. Then preferably go G2G for more jars.
The trick is the speed the jar colonizes.

Speed helps but isn't as important as you might think.

Cleanliness is key.

That being said the more inoculant the better
