Agreed, especially since the price point of 60mm is not cheap enough to justify them compared to 100mm. Sure, you'd save a ton of agar with 60mm, but again, the price of 60's is too close to 100's. And the 100's give you more time to react when you have a ton of cultures lying around.

For funsies a while back, i did calculate out approximately how much each 100mm petri plus agar/LME. I use 7.5g/7.5g/500mL. At $0.17/blank dish, $1.50 for 25g agar, and $11.89 for 1lb LME, it costs ~$4.13 for 20 plates filled or $0.207 per. I don't know how many 60's get filled with 500mL agar, but let's say it fills 50. That would mean $8.15/50 or $0.163 per. That four cent difference means a ~$20 difference over a case of 500, so the 60's need to be at least $20 cheaper per case to make it worth it, and they usually run less than $15 cheaper. And to top it off, I usually get 25-30 plates per 500mL so that makes it $5.87/30 plates or $0.196 per.

tl:dr 60's aren't worth it financially. also i talk too much lol

Same here was an all-grain brewer with kegging system and keezer for several years. Feels great buy a 50lb bag of malted barley and make 10 gallons of any beer you want for about $30 that is usually better than anything you can buy. I found the more money I sank into brewing, the cheaper the beer got. Not sure if it ever evens out. I will get back to it one day and make my money back.

That's it, I'm throwing in the towel! Tried foil twice, cling wrap stack way above the PC
water level, and in a Rubbermaid container. All plates looked like drowned rats.
One batch already has 3 plates with contam.

I'm going with the oven TEK to sterilize the plates and back
to good'ol fashioned SAB pouring!

Side note, I can look it up, but the person recommending this also felt the oven increased plate longevity or something like that...

Man I stopped leaving anything unwrapped I'm my lab. See my problem right now is I fruit in the same area as I do my sterile work. Lately I've been having to keep a fan running anytime I'm not working in the Sab. It's pushing contams into everything I leave unwrapped.
Edit: this plate was clean and unused. Started using the fan then bam contam city.

True dat, he even goes two hours. Maybe I'll try PC again, 20min? without agar and
let them dry out before pouring.

I do realize condensation happens anyway. I suppose if the room
temperature didn't vary, then....anyway it's all part of the game.
