Where I currently live a conservative politician a while ago was branded a racist for publicly saying that the state administration should be colour blind. This is a measure of madness afflicting the West.

I find it ironic and quaint how the president appeals particularly strongly to the hyper-masculine. My favorite piece of demographic from the 2016 election is his ability to pull votes from the uneducated. perhaps his completely transparent lack of intelligence, awareness and responsibility is attractive to his peers. The valueless members of society find hope in his laughable impunity.

Perhaps these four years have made me divisive and far too polarized.

I think that your post consists largely of generalisations which are only supportable inside your ideological bubble. But, since the issue of racism came up, is suggesting that ideology is relevant for one's qualities racist?

I am trying to gauge what different people believe fits in the meaning of "racism". To me it only covers generalisations based on race but others also include nationality and religion as determinants. My question to you is whether trying to judge person's qualities based on the ideology they follow (say conservatives, progressives or communists) is racist.

"race" is in the word racism and I adhere pretty strictly to the rules of merriam webster. Discriminating against religions or political ideologies is a different game (although bigotry typically arrives in a package). There are some interesting benders like judaism the religion vs. the jewish ethnicity. What are you hoping to learn from these insights into individual definitions?

I think in public discussions it is helpful to agree on what the terms we use actually mean or else unnecessary confusion results. You will see on previous page that Merriam definition of racism will be changed to include the common usage of the term so I am also trying to gauge what that might be.

Those people are amazing they tell us that criticizing muslims is in fact racist while telling us that race is social construct and doesn't exist while talking about white privilege and needing more racial diversity, while telling you that free speech or hate speech is violence but punching perceived racists in the face is justifiable while saying that property destruction or burning buildings while protesting isn't violence, but a viable form of protesting. Quite the conundrum they are :lol:

race is a social construct.  it has no scientific meaning within the human population.  Racism is an archaic holdover premised on discrimination of some population groups based on arbitrary but visually obvious cosmetic differences such as skin color, eye shape, etc.  It is primarily a tool of social control, wielded by the few in order to divide the many into smaller and more easily managed groups.  It's what convinces a poor white guy that he's somehow inherently better than a poor (insert ethnicity here) guy.  Speaking of white guys, many "white" folks today wouldn't have passed muster back in the 17th century colonies, back when whiteness was invented.  Pretty much only english and germans.

Being amish is something that one chooses. That's a completely different thing.  Discrimination on the basis of religion is prejudice.

I agree. Additionally, the way to eliminate workplace discrimination - should this be a priority - is to allow it to flourish and let the free market cull the companies which deprive themselves access to the pool of qualified workforce through the biased recruiting process.


If that worked economically, there would have never been discrimination, would there?
