Do em just like any of the woodlovers. Outdoors they're pretty easy. Hardest part will be germinating them from the swab..

var subsecotioides

Awesome job Jake on those zapos ! Just pasteurized some straw and laid it over some zapos spawn today. Hope to join the zapos train !

Sweet ovoids cron!

Beautiful just gorgeous ! So these are the unknown species from AUS correct? Believed to be in section zapotecorum.

Anybody here doing P baeocystis? These are proving to be the most challenging species I've worked with. Very wispy myc and picky on grains. I've got a few tests running to see how it responds.

Yeah I got beaos running rn they tend to not like sterile subs but otherwise not horribly difficult to work with

Dang! Here's a tip for sterilizing. When you dilute isopropanol to 70%, dilute it with hydrogen peroxide (standard 3%). Unlike just iso, you can use it to sterilize things, for example scalpel blades. I've been doing it for a while with great success.

Sum big hoog/subtrop¿ pin coming up, not a great looking pinset set. These are ran on the exact same sub as the pans but I moved trays from Jartha to traditional mono because the pan cycles seemed to be blacking out and aborting pins they look happier now they move so damn slow tho it’s hard to tell if their conditions are optimal. I got about the same pinset on coir before the Jartha fried them. Still haven’t got these lil fuckers down yet. Haven’t found a solid lead as to what they need to canopy

Excellent, good going jake :smile:

Hey i have a couple questions:

- About semperviva and regular hoogs: it seems semperviva is pretty popular and not considered to be very very hard to grow from what i hear, but the elusive hoogschagenii sensu stricto i did hear is hard to grow. Seems pretty strange considering semperviva is a variety of it, right? Are sempervivas more domesticated?

- I have a quart jar of zapotecorum spawn almost ready.. it doesn't seem easy to find good info on what it grows from in nature. It's habitat yes but beyond that? "Psilocybin mushrooms of the world" says it grows on humus rich in dead leaves and wood debris (other than that i often see marshes, mud etc often mentioned).
More generally now, is it right that i notice a pattern that species growing on such grounds are often enough cultivated on poo/straw or fancy versions with other things added?

So poo is not just for poo-lovers but for fans of predigested plant material (and nitrogen) is that right?

Just very interested in the rationale for trying out substrates when you have uncommon species, especially when there is almost no info for some of the most exotic ones.

How many of you analyze the nutrient compositions of these materials? Those who don't and also don't copy others... how do you approach it?

Sum pretty big (hoog/subtrop?) pins comming up. The one tray is filling out so so the other only has a few small pins. There are a few small blacked out aborts but I’m pretty sure those happened when they were still in the Martha the cycling that the pans enjoy definitely are too much for these guys they will come up but then abort. Anyone who’s gotten canopies of this species what’s a line on what these guys are after right now they’re just ran on my pan sub they seem to be OK I haven’t quite figured out what their preferred fruiting conditions are right now they’re in a traditional mono in trays. Any tips on ways y’all have found to optimize this grow, or Just run em like cubes and optimize via genetics?

In my experience, this species will easily grow in anything but a GH(setup to be somewhat automated). I've had decent canopies from shoeboxes of all shapes and even a SGFC, but pins will not survive a night in my GH. I think it has something to do with the amount of moving air they experience, but that's just a guess :frown:
