Quick Question for everyone.....

What would say your average haul was from a 2hr hunt?

Yesterday I came away with about 30ish.

Thanks,

LOL

Sorry to be blunt but if you are that unable to tell how will you ever? You need to know...

Like...what if one day you pick a bunch of libs along with a few dodgy ones?

I suggest looking at more pictures, pay attention to the characteristics to familiarise and maybe look into what other mushrooms would look like (google liberty cap look alike) after go on the hunt...pick the right thing to be looking for and then come back for an id request just to double check...but I stress if you pick a bunch libs with a few dodgy ones, these may go unnoticed by the person confirming your find as the odd unwanted mushroom will be inevitably harder to see.

I see too many people picking random mushrooms at once in the name of hope

At the end of it all it’s up to you to make an informed decision when picking wild mushrooms wether edible or psychoactive

Good luck

I have found that sheep pastures are the only habitat for mega hauls. Cow & horse fields are random as.in fact my local spot has been decimated because the farmer introduced cows last year. I'm sure the shit is detrimental to lib mycelium.i search from the outer borders inward following any tracks or old pathways thru the fields.

^^^ all libs from what I can see but wait for trusted ^^^^^

@Logiuk - keep looking , Libertycaps , are much more flesh like in texture , they have 3 types of drying tones , they are slug like when wet , creamy pale-ish white when drying and golden when dry. The stems are very sturdy , Infact they are a sturdy mushroom all round unlike other stems of mushrooms they do not snap easily , there’re caps can be all kinds of shapes and sizes and they don’t always have to have a nipple present. They can arrive single or in clusters

. like the other poster says , familiarise yourself then know what to look for , you will know straight away when you find one and will never mistaken one for something else again after that first find. look for those sheep , horse fields , don’t worry about cows so much , like one poster mentions , they tend to graze in groups and being heavy as they are they  therefor can disrupt the habitat , especially when it’s wet.
They tend to like fields that have had a history of grazing , fields that have animals moved from time to time so that the fruiting body gets a chance to spore , if it’s over grazed , the caps don’t get much of a chance either......
Too much rain can be a problem like too little , you want cold consecutive temps at night , all 10 and below.

But yes follow the sheep and check out large horse fields

Hi was out today and found these. Never really bothered picking mushrooms so wasn't 100% what I was picking. After looking on this site I feel I have not got liberty caps but would be good if some more experienced could give an opinion for the benefit of doubt? Thanks

Have a check of this thread and contained links, and don't give up, but you do need to be careful. Being as you found this site shows some due diligence, there's a lot to learn!

Thanks for the useful info.

I wasn't looking for them yesterday but stumbled across them. May make another trip when I know what to look for.

Are liberty caps more or less the only ones to look for in UK?

Return to "cap town" in the Peak District - 9am to 11am this morning - perfect weather over the last two days so lots and lots out again - plus saw hundreds of pins (which I left) so many, many more to come.

Reckon on the drying sheets there are circa 400 - so not bad for 2 hours picking.

Think I'm going to call it a day for this year as have roughly 2500 now - which is way, way more than I need - will post a final dry weight of them all when they are done.

FWIW I also did 4g dried of the first pick last night - wild camped by myself in a cave up on Howden edge - pretty mind blowing all in all - watching the hills roll and crash like waves whilst the heather swirled and morphed like oil on water. Mentally I can't really explain - suffice to say I became part of the edge, there wasn't a me in nature - only a sea of molecules bumping into one another...everything - and I mean *everything* - was one thing...

Pics from today:

Growing

Nice examples

Today's haul

Stick to liberty caps, there are others but I don't know enough about them or their potential look alikes. Some have very similar deadly ones (conocybe filaris for example).

None are libs I am afraid- top row are all "Panaeolus fimicola or Turf Mottlegill".

Hard to tell the others from the pictures but nothing like libs...

The turquoise are probably Stropharia, but again super hard to tell from the pics.
