This was the best pin set I’ve had, but I have a sick feeling in my stomach that the white area in the middle is a contamination. Can anyone either confirm this or correct me? Thank you :frown:(

looks like trich before it turns green.. what is your substrate and how did u prepare it? also did you use ms syringe or myc on agar ?

Syringe, WBS, damiens 50/50 coir tek, casing layer using jiffy mix.

And of course it’s trich... I was looking so forward to seeing the growth of this tub... I’ve had 2-3 other contaminated tubs as well recently - wasn’t trich though.

Definitely going to go green soon. Get it out of your grow area ASAP. If you decide you're sick of contaminated tubs, start learning agar and stop shooting spores into grain. And if you use Jiffy, be sure to pasteurize it properly.

For your next batch, add in a few agar transfers.

Just gonna hop on this bandwagon and say learn agar.

I wish I had just done that from the start.

Edit:  It is because you put spores directly to grain, full stop.

Contams in tubs come from dirty spawn, not from the sub or tub.  Spore syringes are contaminated by their very nature, it's why most of us use agar to clean up our cultures.  If you want to stop dealing with contaminates, you need to start working agar plates.

fix the problem of having contaminated tubs(agar) then you wont have tubs sitting around contaminating other tubs.

Who cares? Either option leads to you needing to learn agar. If it's because you had a contaminated sub nearby, you're ensuring many more of those by not learning agar and sticking with shooting spores into jars. If it's the spores, same thing. By the way, how do you suppose the contaminated sub got contaminated? Maybe from using a spore syringe?

Spores are inherently dirty and you can't eyeball spore cleanliness. But if you spend a bit of time to learn agar, you can ensure only clean growth hits your grains.

The site programmers should code something to spot threads involving issues going from syringe to grain and just tell them to learn agar, otherwise don't post. Or an actual must read with shit like that directing them to key threads covering all misinformation and shit like that. No reason for so many threads with all of us saying the exact same thing.

Agar is fun, cheap, and teaches you TONS about your technique while giving you a MUCH better chance at contamination-free grows. Check out Pasty's Easy Agar Tek and get started. Plus you can make a spore syringe last indefinitely. Definitely get started on it, bro!

If they give me the keys, I'm on it. Easy enough to write a bot to do that in python. In fact, I may just do it anyway...
