Contaminated cakes should flush but they will plug up your toilet if too big.

Been there, done that.....

Here's how my elves deal with jars that held contaminated cakes:

First, fill up the sink with super hot soapy water.

Outrside, empty your jars into a garbage bag. Replace the lids immediately. Watch which way the wind is blowing you don't want to get yourself covered in spores of contaminates.

Take the closed jars inside and one by one, open them in the sink of hat water. Open them under water. Let soak for an hour or so and wash. Then pc for about an hour.

They are now ready for reuse.

i fill a 5 gallon bucket up with water and bleach, strong on the bleach, and hold the jars underneath when i open em, i do all of this outside. take em back inside, wash in soapy water, and give em another mild bleach rinse, the rinse well with straight water

Im not too experience at mushie growing so i would like to know why you have to take measures like these? Can't you just open a jar and throw the cake into the trash?

A newbie at heart,

In reply to:

well for one reason, if its contaminated, it is putting off millions of bad spores, do you want these all on you/ your house/ your grow room? and why do i open them under bleach water? one is to again trap & kill and bad spores. also certain contams can do seriouse damage to your health, if any bad spores are released. they wont make it to my nose, mouth, eyes etc etc
the final bleach rinse, is to just make sure everything is dead. this is probably overkill, but i feel better if i do it. some bacteria can live thru the PC, i dont want contaminated jars, before i even begin.

Throw them away?
do you have no concept of keeping our planet clean.
The more you reuse the better, don`t just toss the shit out.
Damn.
It` s not that much effort to clean things.
Soaking bottles needs no work, just soak them.

yes.. please don't everyone throw your jars away..
i haven't bought plastic lids for mine yet.. but i'm sure it's more earth friendly.

You have to remember of course that this mother earth gave us these.... emmaculate fruits.. respect her.

i just go outside... it's always windy... and empty into a plastic bag and have a big tub of bleach water to put it in Throw the bag away.

<--You can pressure cook the contaminated jars, but thats a pain in the ass.. Simple solution is to leave the contaminated jar in the freezer over night.. It will lock the contamination spores in ice. Simply run hot water on the jar, than shake the cake into a plastic bag and tie it..------>

Here's what I do bro - I take my contaminated Jar out of incubator and also a small plastic containe/jar, bring to the kitchen take out a piece of tin foil. Open up my jar, start the hot water. Plug my nose and pour out the contamed substrate/verm layer onto the tin foil. I then enclose the foil so the contamed junk is in there and place the tin foil ball into the trash. Next I wash out my jar with very hot water then i place my jar lids on the bottom of my plastic container. I add a cap full of bleach and squirt of dissinfenctant soap into my container and glass jar. Then lastly I place my jar inside the container, fill with hot hot water and soak for 24 hours remove contam free.

this isnt brain surgery, I just empty my jars in a bag and let em soak in the sink, then wash em out dry them and thats it.... When it comes time to fill them and use them again there clean, and there gonna get oressure cooked anyways so even if there is something on it I cant see its gonna die anyways... why add the extra pressure cooking empty jars? No matter what before you innoculate your gonna pressure cook so that will kill anything thats invisible anyways.

this is really simple.

never open up a contaminated jar in your house.
this is like asking for 10,000 or more contaminates to be let loose in your house.
and you will probably get more contams.

take the jar outside....open it and dump the contaminated cake into something.
then have a bleach/water mixed container outside to put the jar into.
let it soak for a day or 2.....then shove the son of a bitch into the dish washer.

end of problem.

unless you feel like throwing 88cents a pop away.....then go ahead and throw it in the recycling.....and save the planet!

Yeah, you know how long it takes glass to break down in the environment?

Longer than plastic. Longer than rocks even!
