i don't think it's that much of an issue... to be cautious, just rinse with soap thoroughly, and put them in the washer for a long time... maybe spray a little bleach on if you want.

I soak them in bleach overnight
and the next day I scrub off the film that
has built. When they are squeeky clean
their ready to use.

The best (and recommended) way to do it, is to Pressure Cook all contaminated jars for an hour (to kill most all contaminants). Then dump the jars out and soak in a 50/50 water/bleach solution for at least a couple of hours (overnight is best). Wash the jars with hot soapy water and rinse.

The reason for this is you don't really want to open a contaminated jar as there could be pathogenic (sp?) stuff in there that you DEFINANTLY do not want to breathe in. You could do an abbreviated procedure and pressure cook the jars, then dump out and simply rinse with bleach and then wash with hot soapy water (this should kill most contams).
