Malcolm X was talking about how the white man uses the black community as a political tool, but doesn't actually care about solving their problems. The reason white liberals have done more damage than white conservatives, is because they have been much more successful in convincing the black community that the white man has their best interests at heart.

What you are doing right now, feigning concern for the black community as a political tool to attack white liberals, is the exact behaviour that Malcolm X is talking about in the quote you supplied. You don't actually care about helping the black community; this is wildly apparent to everyone here who has seen your incredibly shallow analysis that doesn't make it past the policies you already oppose, and parading around the handful of black pundits that say the same conservative talking points. White liberals might be better at this, but liberal/conservative ideology is irrelevant to the practice.


Here, have another Malcolm X quote, on me:

I think some black culture doesn't want to be integrated.  They seem just fine doing their own thing. 

What does OP suggest as an alternative?  No welfare?  I think the GOP just tries to save money by cutting social programs.  When in reality they could do a lot to curb spending elsewhere.  Corporate welfare, sending money to negatively behaving nations, welfare to weapons dealers, all the shit that GOP gets a big old hard one for.

Of course the one's I have known or lived next to...work!

The one dude he just did kitchen work and had to use HUD services.  Kitchen work doesn't pay enough.  The lady I knew, she worked a factory job and that paid better.

The dude that did kitchen work was a big stoner.  So go figure he wasn't into factory work.  He was also in the Navy.

I think Republicans have this slanted idea and point of view of what your average black citizen is.  That all black people are ghetto or abnormal.  That it's an epidemic of welfare.  It's not.  Welfare only tries to make it possible to survive in the bottom of the economy.  It doesn't raise up anymore than around poverty.

At the same time GOP does things to cut spending on public education.  THIS is the biggest issue!  A public that is uneducated is unable to raise above and compete.  Which is odd too, cause GOP tends to be less educated. 

I have known GOP elites that favor private educations.  Just because it's trendy to have exclusive social groups.  The education is perceived as favorable.

Who the hell would want to live in or next to a minority community that gets cut off from welfare, food stamps, SS disability and other social programs?  Talk about a danger zone.

That's right, conservative voters use a disproportionate amount of federal welfare funding than their liberal counterparts, by a LOT! In fact, California tax payers are keeping Kansas alive.

As I've said before, you really need to look at corporate welfare, if you're going to bitch about welfare. There may be problems with other welfare programs, but by and large, corporate America is raiding America's coffers.

Are you joking?  An argument isn't won when the other side concedes.  :facepalm:  It's won when one side presentes evidence supporting their point, while the other side is unable to refute that evidence.

If you've presented evidence to me that I haven't refuted with evidence, then I lose, whether I concede or not.

I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them.  I also attack my side if I think they're wrong.  People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

What an excellent quote. In this quote, I see another message, that is applicable today:

This is how I see American politics today. That is not to take away from Malcolm X's message, which is also still very true. Most Democratic politicians are lying, power hungry, garbage. I would say they lie far more than Republican politicians, and if they didn't, this country would be much greater than it is. This is why I didn't vote for Clinton.

Muhammed Ali seems to think he's 100% African black man lol!

I'm kinda stunned that nobody called him on the glaring problem with his example (pigeons stay with pigeons, giraffes stay be giraffes, lions with lions, etc). If we were to go on from his example, then 'people stick with people'. He's talking about different species.

Here is an article from 1997 I remember reading.....it makes some good points regarding welfare:

The 1996 welfare reform law was the result of a decade of often dramatic and contentious debate about the proper nature of reform. On the one side were conservative reformers who demanded work requirements, illegitimacy prevention, and general de-entitlement. On the other were liberal reformers who also had an interest in work requirements and better job placement but wanted to see the essential characteristics of the social safety net remain intact.

The heat of the last debate was often painfully intense, but perhaps the lull before the next welfare debate begins will afford both camps of reformers the opportunity to learn from each other—especially when it comes to the hard work of recreating civil society and a private sector approach to caring for those individuals in need.

Liberals first. Faith matters. Ironically for a liberal welfare tradition that had its roots in religious revival, many of today’s liberals acknowledge that religious faith is certainly a matter of importance, while ignoring—or being actively hostile to—its policy potential as a catalyst for radical change in people’s lives.

During the last welfare debate, for instance, Senator John Ashcroft’s “charitable choice” provision to allow states to contract with private and religious charitable organizations using federal funds was broadly attacked by many on the left. Yet its basic purpose was simply to level the playing field for faith-based not-for-profits.

Overwhelming evidence coming from groups as diverse as the Heritage Foundation and Public/Private Ventures suggests that faith is not only important, it may be the factor in determining whether an at-risk child, a welfare mother, or a convicted criminal is able to turn his or her life around. It is vital that political liberals embrace this idea. The next year will give them opportunities to do so: new efforts to encourage this kind of religious element in welfare include the charity tax credit and further implementation of charitable choice—type measures.

Conservatives next. Governmental programs can do—and have done—good. In just the past few —decades, hunger and malnutrition have become far less serious social problems thanks to food stamps. Where once one out of every three elderly Americans was in poverty, today that number has dropped to about one in ten, thanks to the indexing of Social Security benefits and Medicare. These are social policy successes virtually without parallel.

Despite its well-documented failures, particularly vis-á-vis the family, the War on Poverty changed the face of poverty. The lesson for conservatives is that keeping intact a safety net of noncash services for the poor—and especially for the children—is crucial to preventing future welfare dependency. In a recent book, What Money Can’t Buy, University of Chicago professor Susan Mayer pointed out that the two most important things determining a child’s future are, first, that his or her basic needs be met, and, second, that he or she be the child of parents with character. Legislatively, little can be done to ensure the second. Realistically, improving the delivery mechanisms for programs like Medicaid so that those who use the services will have better care and better access should be at the forefront of the conservative agenda.

Liberals need to place more trust in the private sector. Long skeptical of some conservative claims that the private sector could replace decades-old government programs overnight, some liberals appear to believe that the private sector can actually do very little—while clinging to the belief that true compassion is directly related to federal spending on welfare. In fact, free market charity and social entrepreneurism operating without the debilitating effects of government are the real hopes for making a transformational difference.
