Auto-SummaryIn this forum post, MarkostheGnostic engages in a heated exchange with another user, criticizing their behavior and questioning their intellectuality. The main points include:
1. MarkostheGnostic asserts their extensive academic background (MTS degree from Drew University and PhD from University of Maryland) and clinical experience, but dismisses the need to explain themselves to others.
2. They accuse the other user of superiority and assumption, pointing out that they have no knowledge of the other person's reading history or forum activity.
3. MarkostheGnostic emphasizes the importance of humility and recognizing the potential in everyone, rather than establishing oneself as superior.
4. They suggest that the other user's posts are primarily for showing off and bolstering their ego, rather than contributing to spiritual discussions.
5. The post concludes by encouraging the other user to reflect on their own ego and approach spiritual discussions with a more humble and open mindset.
The key takeaway is that MarkostheGnostic believes the other user's behavior stems from a deep-seated ego and a need to assert superiority, rather than genuine engagement in spiritual discussions. They argue that a more humble and open approach would lead to more meaningful interactions and a deeper understanding of spirituality.
MarkostheGnostic said: You simply have not been in these forums long enough to have read posts about topics that I have left behind. Included among them is the mental masturbation of theology. It is your own Adlerian psychodynamics that has you thinking superiority-inferiority, putting up-putting down. Your language betrays you. I do not make false or exaggerated claims, I respond honestly, so your comments say more about you than about me. I do not assume anything about my intellectuality, it is who I am. Any self-conscious attempt to appear to be intellectual is merely your projection of me, not an accurate description of me. You are basically accusing me of showing off. Man, are you ever clueless. My wife tries to correct me for being too self-effacing much of the time, and her opinion matters.
The number of books I've read? That is coming from you. All I do is cite books I am familiar with when I think such citation may be helpful to someone. You fail to see my intention and misinterpret it as egoity or boasting. But why am I explaining myself to you anyway? Oh yeah, I value clarity, particularly in verbal/linguistic communication, even when I find another person waxing increasingly obnoxious or recalcitrant. As for intellectuality, I am 40 years post MTS degree from Drew University's theological seminary, and 35 years post-PhD, University of Maryland. My academic and clinical experience belongs to my real-life identity, not my pseudonymous Shroomery identity. But even in real-time, I never engage other professionals in puerile pissing contests, and right now m'man, you're just pissing into the wind.
You are making the mistake of denying the very things you are so clearly guilty of. Silly sausage.
On a less playful note, to hopefully drive home some crucial points in compromise of communicating it in an elongated post:
Your stance is based upon superiority and assumption. Not only are you unaware of age or experience, you have no knowledge of how long anyone has been actively reading the forum. Your agenda is focused primarily upon convincing yourself that others have less than yourself.
Quote: But why am I explaining myself to you anyway?
Question only yourself. You'll find that the answer is because you assume yourself to be superior and your ego compels you. The subject came to rest 4 days ago, yet you've found need to chime in to bolster the delusion of your assumed position, through lack of recent fulfillment or mere boredom.
Once more, sadly, you seemingly can't resist of boasting of qualification and 'experience', which coincidentally perhaps has little value to most people reading, but most importantly nothing to do with actual spiritual experience. Q.E.D. You simply reinforce my points with each contribution and you betray yourself by failure to recognise this.
The majority of your posts, particularly ones boasting of qualifications are made solely for the purpose of showing off - no less infront of an audience which you take liberty to assume are kids. No doubt it's somewhat of a shock to your system when you encounter someone who will communicate freely to point out the detriments of your demeanour, which otherwise goes unmentioned by your 'younger' target audience.
It's worthy of note that there is a fundamental difference between reaching to extend knowledge and personally boasting. In every instance I press the fact of everyone's potential, treating the all as the one. Contrary, you try to establish yourself as the primary and others as the lesser and there is no form of assurance or encouragement in your posts but the presupposition of hierarchy.
Your 'real life identity' would be disabled promptly, should you carry that same demeanour in real life, should you even make the mistake of considering the notion of adopting it. By that fact, you know you'd act differently and with that knowledge, you should act the same here.
When you come to the realisation that there are intellectual people onboard of all ages, then you'll find yourself seated in a more humble position, which, in turn, will serve you more effectively. Your wife, if you'll forgive the reference, is seemingly a very patient person from whom you should perhaps lend a leaf. Her opinion, coincidentally, is case in point. I'm trying to communicate the same - regardless if you listen or not.
If you assume everyone to be a kid who hasn't 'higher education', read enough books which you've read, or hasn't been reading the forum long enough, then it would beg the question why you contribute in an environment where people are seemingly so far beneath you - if only the answer pertaining to your ego's needs weren't patently obvious. Have a word with yourself and strive to find common ground and share what you know in an amicable manner... and then you'll begin understand spirituality. Needless to say, the only 'pissing contest' is with your own ego.
When you are ready to comprehend, start with your own heart and pure intention, rather than the declaration of having attended 'Drew University's theological seminary', for some of the finest people with the deepest, most sincere knowledge haven't even heard of such a thing....
