thoughts

what exists without thoughts?

ask someone who is always thinking - "nothing"

ask someone who is always meditating - "everything"

so what are thoughts exactly? how should we approach them? how much is too much thinking - what's the end goal of thoughts, etc

any thoughts?

Well in terms of people who say they're not thinking about anything, theyre just privately absorbed into their machinations, but everyone is consumed by the same daydreams as you and I, though some people are guarded about it.
You can definately think too much, the old carpentry addage KISS; Keep it simple stupid, is pretty applicable to your own mind as well. In topic to shroomery, and mushroom teks in general, I've seen so many people overthink their fruiting set ups, and then lose everything, when a basic shotgun chamber or monotub would have been the best idea.
But mulling over concepts, philosophies, will only help you find new truths in them. I guess you could miss out on social gatherings if you were THAT absorbed by your imagination, but if thats a case, you should atleast write it down and try to get it published.

My friends are always catching me spacing out into nowhere thinking about some obscure topic, but then I make them talk about it. Heh

I don't think the end goal is to be rid of thoughts, or the ego mind in general. I think it's about developing a distance from your thoughts - severing the ties which lead from thoughts to emotional reactions - these are the neural pathways which keep us at the will of our thoughts and our overactive minds. Tolle calls this "creating space." According to many spiritual traditions this space, or awareness, is our true nature.
