made by people who have been very deep inside themselves, to the point that it's a spiritual level, and whose music has a similar effect on you as a listener.

Basically trippy ass music that sounds like it came from outer space.  Although in reality it came from inner space.

I found some of them (some suck) to be a profound accompaniment to 2ct7.
This, much in a way that was quite difference from trancy technoey electronic stuff.

Evening the brain activity across the hemispheres has an amazing effect on thought and intuition.

I’m really surprised to see someone mention Spires That in the Sunset Rise here: although they made some of the most original and fierce music of the last two decades they received barely any recognition for what they did. (A review by me of Four Winds the Walker is here; of This Is Fire here and of Spires That in the Sunset Rise here). The amazing thing about the music of Spires That in the Sunset Rise - at least on their masterwork Four Winds the Walker - is the way in which they integrate ethic instruments of the most obscure kind and make them sound like they were designed for modern-sounding rock music. iTunes has an album of the Spires at their peak live at Schuba’s on May 2 of 2005 that shows their use of unusual instrumentation to even greater effect.

More than that, their music is mystically passionate in a communal manner quite different from the intensely personal mysticism of Kate Bush or Patti Smith. the four women who formed the classic lineup of Spires That in the Sunset Rise worked as a communal team like few groups of any kind have ever done. If you purchase the article “Sisterly Bond is What Inspires the Spires” from their peak in 2005, you might get a good understanding of how they group worked.

I would say, though, that with the exception of the alcohol-drenched “Ong Song”, the music of Spires That in the Sunset Rise is hardly druggy, even though in most places its mysticism runs deep as shown by songs like “Imaginary Skin”, “Bee Forms”, or even “Spike Fiddle Song” with the unexpected “gloria”s.
