There is a trend right now in alternative music, where a lot of the artists are almost starting to brag about how deep they've been, or how far out, however you wanna say it.  It's happening mostly in electronic music.  Also, I've noticed this trend in lots of cartoons on adult swim...they display their cosmic experience in full force.  I don't really know if I'm explaining this right.  But I feel like certain artists are leading the charge in a trend of yogi/artists...although they probably wouldn't describe themselves as such.  Here's some examples.

FLYING LOTUS:

This song is called fuckin Do the Astral Plane.  Need I say more.  I actually listened to this song in a dream, and I could hear demons talking to me through the song. Flying lotus does the bump music for adult swim.



This is a song by flying lotus featuring thom yorke, who sort of lead the charge on this shit. 



OK Computer is a brilliant example of this stuff but it's older and doesn't fit in aesthetically quite as well, but I'll still include this song airbag because...well, shit, it's amazing

This guy is actually a yoga instructor.  He's a total fuckin head, and his music is just soooo....that..

I haven't listened to him quite as much but he's got that authentically indian/spiritual vibe.



As you can see, all of these artists are involved with one another.  It's like they're all on some level together.  Thoughts or other examples?

In addition to being very deep, these songs are all fuckin badass

In a way, it sounds to me like you are actually describing the very nature of art and music itself.

While I agree that we are in the midst of an influx of "conscious confessors"... they are standing on the shoulders of giants who, for generation upon generation, have kept that inspiration alive.

Oh, no doubt.  I actually hear a lot of the doors in some of this stuff, it's led me to look at their music in a new light.  But yeah, this seems to me like a new breed. And it's all on Warp Records! :headbanger:

Well I'm not familiar with Warp Records at all and I still detect the same "new breed energy" so I'm not sure it is all on Warp Records... heh.

I've been into Trevor Hall, Xavier Rudd, Heatbox... stuff like that...

well warp has good shit on it, most of what i posted is on there. It's not all on there but that label has been very progressive in signing experimental artists.  I'll be sure to check those guys out, maybe expand my awareness of the new musical breed a bit.

Word... is Warp Records all electronic? I like psy trance and shit but have been more into the traditional formats lately. I'm open to any specific artist suggestions you have. (I checked out the Thom Yorke collab. above, seemed interesting, but again, not really what I'm looking for right now.)

one mainstream favourite is karnivool check out their latest album sound awake, amazing stuff!

also love psychedelic trance always great moments in there!

Thrice has a spiritual connection.. I think all of the greats have to have a spiritual connection or else they wouldnt be great.

Wow i cant believe xavier rudd was mentioned on here. that guy kills the dij. Ive been into alot of world music lately and honestly ive never been a big fan of electronic music. but i found a cd series called Buddha Bar. very earthy shit.  its pretty amazing id recommend it to any one. Bands like Morcheeba, Supreme beings of leisure, deew, and tons of other really spacey tunes

Wow dude, never heard rap like that before. It's sort of like some of Del's stuff....he's the only other rapper I've heard who raps scientifically.
