Re: Help! Free will problem. [Re: Deiymiyan]

I wouldn't say that is predeterminism. Your free will decisions are subject to the effects of events and choices of other things. That's the way the universe works.

I'm not sure why there's this distinction between external events and internal events---are mental events---sensations, perceptions, intentions, etc. goverened by different causal laws than the external world?

I have no problem with this part of the statement you just said.

Concerning, the way the universe works...

Let's go into the past, not as far as the beginning, but just to the point where our solar system was coming together.

I'm going to find support from something Swami said before: after the fact, it's 1:1, or 100%... It's a done deal, in other words.

So, since we are here, now, to discuss this, then the material that was 'floating' around back then, was 'determined' to come together in the manner that it did, so that we could come here to rest for a while.

From then until now, the determined material made it possible for us to congregate and share our minds with one another in the manner that we do.

The determined material has not stopped yet. It is still in motion.

You cannot stop the direction in which it is going..

Therefore, the events that are going to occur, for the time being, are determined to happen the way they unfold, regardless.

Thinking of what might happen, is your freedom... The way it happens though, is a determined manner of unfolding.

So if things currently unfold towards a specific event [determined], you making considerations of what might happen, or what you'd like to see happen, would be the before, or "Pre" part of it.

That is why I said:

You can think what you want, but what happens is another matter.

That mental interaction you make is a predetermined variable within a 'fixed', yet dynamically moving, fabric.

If the variable, made by you, coincides with the fixed outcome that is unfolding, then you've just made a prediction.

I would say yes, for things that are strictly mental. Your imagination bends the rules, of the physical world, all the time!

Concerning sensations and such things as the other senses, they are a result of physical interaction; physical interactions are the result of external world laws.

If the laws were identicle, then you'd be able to remember the 'pain' you felt when you seriously hurt yourself, or you'd remember the wonderful 'taste' of something... but you don't.

The outworld physical laws work FOR and are used BY the internal laws for the purpose of information coagulation.
