Hey...!

I got tired of laying my lids and tools just anyplace.

I decided to build a dedicated spot where I could place my equipment while I'm in front of the flow hood.

This miniature table was made from four wooden tongue depressors, small wooden dowels and molding trim wood from Home Depot.

The table hinges down when I need to use it......

wallah..! I use it all the time, even lc jars when I want to suck the culture out of it laying on Its side.

Dude that's slick. I was doing a bunch of g2g in front of the hood the other day and was thinking about how nice it would be to have a place to set lids. On that note I've mounted my big roll of parafilm to the hood and I'm getting one of those wire racks for boxes of gloves to mount on the blower housing. I'm also getting an impulse sealer, and since my hood is up against the wall it seems like mounting the sealer to the wall would be cool.

Thanks so kindly for the rating....

But Myco! Earlier you told me I can make Liquid Culture out of water and honey, what kind of jar and lid do I need for that?
-It does not matter what size jar you prepare your liquid cultures in. The lid is much more important. Some people like to put things like stir rods and marbles into their LC jars to help agitate them. With my LC lids I use two 1/4" drilled holes and mount a sophisticated Gas Exchange Filter in one using polyfill, tyvek, and brass plumbing inserts and in the other hole I install a Self Healing Injection Port (SHIP) using:

-High Temp Silicon Gasket Maker:
This is a type of silicon that you squeeze out of a tube and it set and cures as an air tight gasket! Great for attaching things like filters to things like lids, and I've seen it done to put filters on monotubs also! This available for ~$4 at your local autoparts store and they sell it at my Wal-mart and Ace Hardware:

You might be understanding how you can combine these items into a Liquid Culture lid, but just in case you can't...here's what it looks like:

There is a wad of polyfill inside the crimped plumbing insert. This insures an always dry filter with a jar that can be tipped anyway. The SHIP allows users to inoculate with spore or another LC, as well as allowing for easy withdrawal of LC to syringe for use with inoculations!

Its a quality hygrometer is it not? Calibrating is easy. I'm not sure I'f I'll need to calibrate this one though...maybe you don't know about Hair hygrometers....

Just some weird experiments that I can't have a clue what I'm doing unless I have a tool to measure the ending result...hence the 54 dollar German, hygrometer. Have you ever owned something built from Germany? They make quality shit.

Oh ya and I need to dial in my coolmist/mono tub that I just made up out of the blue...sorta.....asap.

This is a pair of cuticle clippers
Which I use for when making contam trasfers.
If the mycelium is completely surrounded by bacteria one can use these to easily retrieve a piece of the airiel mycelium...

Not how I'd describe it...

If u have a Petri w a piece of agar or more fitting would be a piece of tissue from a mushroom in the center..

And that tissue has revived and is growing mycelium.. yet is surrounded by bacteria and can not run onto the agar due to being surrounded by bacteria...

Then u can use these to cut as many strands as posible of the airiel mycelium growing up into the air off the tissue piece. Then transfer that mycelium to a new dish..

So it can hopefully run onto the agar and u can get a clean culture eventually

U may need an extra tool.to get the mycelium off the cuticle clippers onto the new agar dish...

In a situation like this, it can be hard to retrieve a piece of mycelium to transfer due to the fact that mycelium was surrounded by bacteria and couldn't attach itself to that agar at all. So when u go to transfer the tissue sample just slides around...

Its probably not what I should call it, its just a plastic tub hooked up to a coomist. Its a fruiting chamber, I call it.

picked up a longer pair of small scissors for cutting stems off caps. the shorter pairs get too hot when you sterilize them with a berzo torch. the length provides heat protection for your hand after sterilization.

they work like a charm.

Trash bags instead of gloves.

By the time It takes for my arms and hands to dry from washing them just to put on gloves that always seem to tear and rip apart,
I could have nine jars grain to grain finish with in that same time period by using these cheap thin trash bags from the dollar store..

These bags are sterile, they cover my arms, use them once and throw them away..

I'm a believer that Tyvek sleeves are the worse unless you pc them every time you want to use them.

The disadvantage of these bag/gloves:

They're a little clumsy for finer work like folding foil doing prints.

I always slide my little finger under the jars just for safety and support.

I use a rubber bands on each forearm to hold them in place..
